I've asked this before and no-one has answered........My instruction leaflet says meat etc should never be placed in the slow cooker without liquid as it can damage the cooker, yet people seem to put meat in "dry" What's the general consensus on this?
i have just cooked a piece of pork and i left it overnight with just about half an inch of water, oh was up early and he said it was nearly dry and he put a bit more in . it cooked lovely. hth0 -

I didn't read instructions when I got my slower cooker (I'd had one years ago, so knew roughly what to do) if I had, I probably wouldn't have started to use mine dry.:rotfl:
It certainly hasn't done it any damage though, and I find joints of meat much nicer than putting liquid in - especially a nice large piece of beef - I do brown all round the joint first, and don't put salt on it. Just thinking about that has made me think I'll go and get a joint to cook today. If I remember, I turn the meat over after a few hours, but not always
If I buy a joint, I always get a good sized one, so that I can slice it up and put in gravy and freeze for ready meals. I sort of portion the meat up on a plate, so that I freeze just the right amount for meals, and write on how many people it will feed.0 -
