I did brown the shanks first - I do that to most of the meat I slow-cook.

Lamb Hotpot in mine today. Used some lamb steaks (reduced in Asda), carrots, onions and a packet sauce mix. Topped with potatoes and seasoned with black pepper. I`ve never made it in the slow cooker before so I`m keeping my fingers crossed it turns out ok.0

First try doing a meatloaf, adapted a recipe I found on this forum so fingers crossed! Will have with Jersey Royals and some sort of veg yet to be decided!
As I put it on at 7.30am on auto and won't be home until 5 pm, hope that's not too long?? Anyone know??
Update: Tasted lovely although hardly any water left in bottom of SC!0 -
I have cooked gammon, beef and lamb successfully or the bacon joints you get from the butcher in the slow cooker. I am terrible for timings, don't normally add liquid (depending on whether I want gravy), put onions and peppers in the bottom then on Low and leave for about four to six hours or until done or High if I want it quicker. Chicken needs to be cooked on High. One of the things I love about slow cooking is a little more time doesn't mean it will be ruined and tough. Beef tends to be just pink in the middle. I put garlic in the Lamb and Rosemary.
Today I am going to start a Beef Biryani to put in the Slow Cooker tomorrow, meat needs to be marinated in yoghurt.0 -
I have chilli in mine today which smells amazing! I'm hoping it will taste as good as it smells.
Thanks to the lovely tomtombeanie for the recipe!
**edit** Tastes as good as it smells, thanks tomtom!0 -
We have liver and bacon pieces, with sliced onions and chopped tomatoes, and will thicken up later before serving with rice (or maybe couscous).
Smells lovely!
MoamAlthough no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.... life is a WIP.

I've asked this before and no-one has answered........My instruction leaflet says meat etc should never be placed in the slow cooker without liquid as it can damage the cooker, yet people seem to put meat in "dry" What's the general consensus on this?0
