I would add mushrooms and some red wine too. If you have time flour the beef and brown it first.
We don't drink at home, so I could only find chardonnay :rotfl: I think it was from an old M&S Meal Deal. I am going to have to buy some red and white wine for cooking with...the only mushrooms I had were scary-old (plundering my flatmates cupboard as I forgot to buy some) so...

In my slow cooker today I have:

Stewy beef (Floured and browned as per kidcats suggestion)
    Onions
    Carrots
    Herbs
    Veg and beef stock

It already smells amazing, should be good when I get home from Overtime & Errands.

Hi Golden Goose, I got mine last week from Tesco, it was only £9.90 (ish - well less than £10 anyway) They had them online (black one) so you could probably do through cashback site - but I picked mine up in store. Its brill!

If you only need small amounts for cooking, buy some of the 25cl bottles (a third of a normal size bottle) from most supermarkets. Asda have 4 bottle for £5. I find they are ideal for cooking with.

    Chilli in mine today.

Stewing steak instead of mince for a change. Browned the veg and meat first. Smells good already.
  • Beef stew going in mine today, with a mixture of veggies from the fridge! Gonna try flouring and browning the meat first this time, yum!

In mine there is a pound of white beans simmering away. Once they are cooked, I will combine them with a mixture (already made and waiting in the fridge) of red onion, garlic, chunks of tuna from a tin, chopped tomato, balsamic vinegar and olive oil. Then let it all cool down together to blend flavours, and serve on a bed of salad - with fresh crusty bread. There will be plenty left over for lunches during the week.

Chicken thighs and breasts in mine today with tinned toms, garlic, tom puree, red wine, onions and mushrooms. Smells wonderful and am absolutely starving now,

Have converted a friend of mine to SC too, she bought one from tesco for about £10 and its a 3.5l if anybody still looking.

In mine today is a made-up recipe for a sort of Caribbean chicken. I've only cooked it on top of the stove before, but I think it should work really well in the slow cooker (I'll find out after work today!!)

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts cut into chunks and sauteed in a little olive oil
1 tin mango slices in juice, whizzed in the blender until smooth with the juice of half a lime, 3 tsp West Indian hot pepper sauce, a 200ml carton of coconut cream, 2 crushed garlic cloves, 1 chopped red chilli, 1 tsp smoked paprika, 1 tsp dried thyme, and 2 tbsp chopped fresh coriander. Pour over the chicken and leave to cook on low.

I'm serving it with mixed together rice, red kidney beans and finely-chopped spring onions.

    That sounds double nice

Sainsburys (and probably Tesco too) do Basics wine that I use for cooking - a 75cl bottle of red costs £2.49; bargain! I also buy the Basics cider for making drunken chicken.

Been thinking of getting a SC for ages. Reading through the recipes, I might just go grab the tesco cheapie. I love stews and casseroles but don't like leaving the cooker on while I'm out (kitchen gets too hot for the dog for one).

Off to convince myself more, I have some lamb steaks I wanted to make into casserole for Sunday so if I get one today I could try it out tomorrow as we are having a BBQ for DS2's birthday. Would be handy....

Asda has one for £11, 4lt. Anyone know if it's any good?
