I have popped my slow cooker's cherry today with a something simple, just some potatoes chopped up small, some carrots, onions and stewing steak. I started the steak off in the frying pan (a weird feeling at 7.30 in the morning!) then put all the veg in the bottom, meat on top and covered the potatoes with stock.

    We'll see how it goes!

Silaqui, I've had mine for a couple of years now and never seem to be more adventurous than this! Thats what I'm doing this morning, chopped the veg before going to bed and will brown meat shortly, I'll be looking on here for more inspiring ideas from now on,

Yeah I was reading some of the recipes, some of them sound beautiful! I'm wondering whether I could get away with browning the meat the night before as well, then keep it in the fridge overnight... think it might go a bit yuk though.

I like some of the chicken ideas so might try that soon.

I've just checked up on mine, it's been on over an hour now but doesn't seem to be bubbling or anything! Smells nice though!

    Morning all,

well I have a ham hock in my sc today - first time I have tried this, so very much trial and error. What I am hoping is that I get plenty of meat for a meal and then to be able to make a pea and ham soup with the stock - hmmm we shall see if it works out.

This is only the second time that I have used the sc - I made a chicken in red wine on sunday but found that although the chicken was lovely the sauce was far too strong tasting for my taste - less wine (never thought I would say that!:D) more stock I think in future!

Havent used my slow cooker for a few weeks, but in it today I have brisket with chopped onions and some soy sauce - gonna do some mash and roasted winter veg to go with it, and also cauliflower cheese if I can be bothered!

Well the ham hock is out of the sc and the meat is absolutely gorgeous. I have saved the water/juices and intend making a pea and ham soup tomorrow. I am putting peas onto soak tonight.

:naughty:I know it is very tempting but don't keep taking the lid off to check what is happening in your lovely new slow cooker - it takes about half an hour to get back up to temperature again!!!
