Hi zippychick - I'm also doing a tajine this weekend for lunch guests on Sunday. I would think that putting the couscous on top of the tajine will make the end result really stodgy! Why not serve the couscous separately?
The couscous you buy these days is always already pre-cooked and doesn't need soaking. All I do is tip it into a pyrex bowl, add a pinch of salt and sometimes some spices (cinnamon, coriander, cumin for example - optional). If you like, you can put a little butter on top or a drizzle of olive oil. Then just cover it with boiling water and let it stand for 5 minutes or so - or until you need it. Finally, just before serving up, I fluff the couscous up with a fork and quickly re-heat it in the microwave for 3 minutes (depending on quantity). Really easy, and very quick.

I probably will go for the simpler approach! It wasnt stodge at all, it was sexy :D

Now cooking braised sausages in cider and wholegrain mustard. Thanks for the recipe someone else posted up but i had to go shopping before I seen that so will try a gain

Very dubious about this, Smells amazing but am dying to stir it! its been in an hour. DOing on high as would be a bit nervous leaving it alone until ive used it more than once.

Excited indeed. Also making chicken and leek casserole this weekend too. So cheap so far. Im unsure how much meat costs from the butchers as i dont eat a lot, so im guessing 4 chicken pieces for 4 or 5 ?

I just read your post to my husband and he said not to ever get him rabbit.

    He has now worries there!

LOL hehe! There was a lot of arguments about that rabbit - My OH had 'advised' me to just 'coil it around the pot' depite my ideas of jointing it, and I was livid when his advice had not worked, because it was supposed to be our dinner and we ended up hob cooking little bits of it and ate this weak 'soup' thing instead of a hearty stew....I am forever saying "do you remember the 'just coil it around the pot' advice you gave me?" when he tries to give me any other cooking advice....
IF I ever slow cook a rabbit again, I will be jointing it first!!:rotfl:

Not that I've noticed when this has been cooked for me, but I'll let you know tomorrow once I've sampled my own.

For those that asked about me putting coffee in with my beef, it came out perfect! No taste of coffee just a wonderful rich taste and family scoffed it!

I think they are a really low wattage so I suppose it's just the same as leaving your dvd/video player plugged in.

I know that when I rang british gas about the running cost of a slow cooker I am sure they quoted about 12p if left on for about 6 or 7 hours so they can't be that high a wattage.

Sorry but I missed your tip about coffee.

Can you please tell me how much and do I assume that you add it as a liquid and not granules?

It only consumes about the same amount of power as one or two light bulbs.

I cant see what the problem is.

In mine today - Beef Curry

    3 large braising steaks diced
Jar of sainsburys cheapy curry sauce (the 4p one)
    1/2 an onion, in half-rings
    1 1/2 peppers, diced
    Can chopped tomatoes
generous teaspoon of hot and spicy curry paste
    teaspoon of hot curry powder
    teaspoon diced garlic

Hoping it's going to be hot enough for hubby as the 4p sauce is very mild. Problem is I can't taste it later to check lol as I'm a ooh oooooh korma is hot kind of wimp.
