Silly question, but what does whoopsied mean?

Have read heaps of this thread and am slightly confused at the amount of liquid needing used. My book says to half the liguid used for normal resipes to SCify them.

With meat - would there always need to be enough liquid to cover it all?

If you roast meat with a tiny bit of water is it ok to use auto setting? And does it look cooked? I would brown it before hand.

Sounds pretty much like people throw stuff in and hope for the best, and it seems to mainly come out lovely!

Has anyone got a foolproof sausage casserole recipe with quantities etc? I would rather start with a structure, then start playing around when i have tried it a few times and have more confirdence.

Also mine apparently has a steam release thingy button at the top and im not sure i understand that.?

I'm hoping someone answers your questions too as I was about to ask the same things.

Ok, only my second ever thing in my slow cooker.

    800g diced beef
7 carrots (all I had left)
    an onion
    cubed potatoes
    enough beef stock to cover
    pinch of paprika
    half teaspoon of coffee
    good twist of pepper
    twist of garlic salt

on low till I get home.

Think this will turn out ok?

I'm attempting to make a soup in my slow cooker today:

    Broth and Soup mix
    3 carrots
    1 onion
    Veg stock

I was going to put potatoes in but forgot :rotfl: I've never made this kind of soup before, hope it's okay. I'm going to whizz it all up with my hand blender when it's cooked :D I'm going to make some fresh bread in my new breadmaker to go with it, yummy!
 Think happy & you'll be happy
    I :heart2: my doggies

Wow - never come across this before in a beef casserole (that I know of !) - is this a 'secret ingredient' ?

Let us know how it turns out - I'm curious now !

Not a secret ingredient I'm afraid Linda. I have seen a few people do this in the past and it was fab so thought I'd try it myself. Still getting to grips with my slowcooker!

Yep, totally agree coffee adds a lovely depth of flavour in things (I started off using it in chilli, now it goes in anything beefy!) I also put a bit of brown sugar in to take the edge off tomatoes - really I might as well chuck some cream and a teaspoon in and have a proper coffee! :rotfl:

Tuna celery casserole in mine today - found some freezer-burned tuna steaks loose at the bottom of the freezer so hunted down an ok-sounding recipe online, tweaked & then roughly quadrupled it to fill my big slo-co.

Judging by the ingredients this one will be very rich - quite glad it's not for me (I don't eat fish), have just quit smoking and finding it hard to keep the lbs off as it is!

    6 tuna steaks, roughly chopped
    15 eggs, hard-boiled, chopped
    3 packs celery, chopped
    2 cups mayonnaise
4 cans Campbell's condensed ceam of celery soup
6 cups breadcrumbs (original recipe used crisps!)

All in together for a good mix bar 1 cup of breadcrumbs which are sprinkled on top, and off and away it goes for roughly 6 hours on my one and only setting.

If he makes it back from Sweden today, OH will no doubt give a full review later! :D
  • Stuffed peppers prepared ready to go in mine today. (stuffed with cous-cous, garlic, chilli, feta cheese, pine nuts and cubes of the gammon that we had hot and cooked in SC on Tuesday).

This is probably a VERY silly question but do you need liquid around the stuffed peppers to cook them in the SC?

am going to buy a whole chicken and put it in my slo cooker next week
how long does everyone else cook theirs for
I thought it would take longer than 3 hours ??
I really like roasting a whole chicken but hate it when you have to really carve at it
we all love it when it just falls off the bone when I make chicken casserole

it was small chicken, usually i put it on low when i head out for work in the morning, and it is ready when i get in from work, but had the water shut off in the area yesterday, so could not wash slow cooker from night before, so had to wait until water was back on, so decided to give it a go on high, was lovely.
