In my slow cooker today...

Mam gave me a rabbit, (to cook, already skinned & gutted but still with kidneys & liver.)
I have tryed to cook rabbit before in the oven a few years ago but it didn't turn out very good.
So i think i over compensated this time for the S/C & cooked it for over 12hrs.:p
It was gorgious, the meat just fell off the bones (or the bones fell out of the meat  )
I soaked some red kidney beans, & soup mix (green 'dots', orange 'dots' etc.)
Peeled & chopped 1 tatie, 2 carrots, 1 big onion, a few spring onions.
Put the veg, beans, soup mix, into S/C.
Laid the rabbit on the veg.
Poured in enough boiling water to cover everything (cos it was being cooked for a very long time)
Half an hour before eating it I chucked in 3 chopped mushrooms & made up some gravey (mr A, smart price of course) pored that in.
Then lifted the rabbit out & only took a few minuets to pick the bones out then shredded it & put it back in S/C for a minuet or two.
While that was finishing off, ... I cleaned out my pet rabbit's hutch. Have i got double standards or what. lol
I cooked it over night, & ate about a third of it at midday.
1 third of it will go in the freezer & the other third I will take to mams for her to try. It's better to be late in this world than early in the next! :A0 -
In my SC today I have: braising steak, two chopped carrots, massive chopped onion, stock, going to add [STRIKE]doughballs[/STRIKE] dumplings soon and serve with mashy mash!
Mmmmmmm, just what we need on a cold day like this lol.Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

Afternoon ladies (and chaps?)
Lamb hot pot here
couple carrots thinly sliced on the diagonal iykwim
1/2 small swede thinly sliced
shredded leek
2 onions thinly sliced
6 large potatoes thinly sliced
bag of cheap frozen lamb chops(defrosted)
layer the meat an veg ending with a nice posh layer of potatoes add about 1 pint stock cook on low for 8 hrs
you may need to baste the potatoes as they are not immersed in the liquid at the beginning but once cooking for a while they are
i love lamb and potatoes together
We actually had this on tuesday and having the leftovers tonight with a little mint sauce adde with roasties and red cabbage ...........yummy
Cheap too about £3 alltogether for 8 big portions
Also i have a few tins of value chicken soup wich were to watery as soup any ideas for slowcooking them in something??
I love my slowcooker for the reasons everyone mentioned plus if dinner is ready when i come home the takeaway doesn't get a look in i think moneysaving in general is about organisation ..............i always spend more when rushed and stressed

Yes,I have been given a brand new one although it has never been used, I think it has been around for a while. The donor just never used it. I have got it out of the box but there are no recipes with it just a little leaflet virtually telling me to wash the thing before I use it. Duh!
I really fancy having a go as I am a big casserole cook but not sure how to start with the slow cooker.0 -

Whatever you did in a casserole dish you can do in a slow cooker.
It is just a very low heat cook pot.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0
