Quick update - the lentil curry which I tasted before I went out last night was delicious. I chopped up some fresh coriander through it today and will have a portion tonight with some pilau rice and naan for dinner. Have managed to freeze 3 x portions for evening meals and 1 x portion for lunch. Hooray - all from the storecupboard (except one tin of toms and fresh coriander!)0

1 tin tomatoes and herbs
1/2 teasp salt

I cooked a whole chicken in my slow cooker today with an inch of water about about 8 garlic cloves, just took it out and pulled all the meat off, there is LOADS! OH usually pulls the meat off a chicken when we roast one but I'm home alone so had to do it myself, I'm sure I got off loads more meat than he usually does. And I love cooking in the slow cooker, it comes off the bone really easy. First time I've ever done a whole chicken in the slow cooker, I'd defo be doing it again
So some for my dinner tonight, some breast for a roast dinner for both of us tomorrow, some for lunches, I'm thinking of making a chicken and mushroom pie but topped with mash instead of pastry, would it freeze ok? and it looks like there will still be some left for another meal or at a stretch two!*wonders when they will make dressing gowns acceptable day wear?*No new toiletries challenge - use up the stash first!NSD Jan 2/150 -
Hello all,
Today I have pork steaks, cooking in cider, soy sauce and honey.
Will use stock to make gravy and we will have with roast potatoes and lots of veg.
Overnight I will cook a piece of gammon in the rest of the cider with apples and carrots. I picked up the gammon for £3.50 on my last visit to butcher - it will easily feed all four of us for a dinner as well as lots of lovely sandwiches for lunches. The remaining crumbly bits will be frozen to go in a chicken and ham pie. Will chill the stock and skim off any fat & will make into a yummy vegetable soup.
Thanks for inspiring me everyone!

Yeah I cook for my boss but she cooks for me too. There are only the two of us in the office and she's like my best friend. We both bought a slow cooker at the same time and we take it in turns to bring lunch in. Our NY resolution was to not waste money buying expensive sandwiches from the butty shop. So the slow cookers have been wonderful, they feed the family and then do works lunches too. I also cook big batches of soup and freeze that for work in two person portions, then I take it in with crusty bread for the two of us. I think she's brining her HM chilli today!!Wendy x0

Hi everyone, been reading some of your posts on "slow cooking". Thinking of getting a slow cooker for hubby and I. Have seen a 3.5L one advertised in Mak*o, think it was about £15, would this size be any good? Also, not really sure how these work! Do you just throw everything in, with some liquid, and leave it on all day? We're both out during the day so don't want to come home to a disaster. Apologies but I really don't know anything about these other than everyone seems to be raving about them, so I want to give it a go!0

Hi Figgy, the one in Makro is a great one, it's a proper Crockpot and so you can use the pot on the stove/oven etc aswell. They have a slightly bigger one for a few more pounds in the mail too, but if it's just for you and hubby 3.5 would be fine (I have a 3.5 for hubbs, ds and me, and we always have leftovers). It's big enough for a whole chicken or a joint of meat too.
Yep, just throw it in and leave it. It will come with a recipe book which will get you started.Weight loss to date - 8st 13lbs :j0 -
I have today tried bolognaise is my slow cooker for the first time. I have put extra in so that half can be used for the meat sauce in a lasagne on weds. I have checked it a few times and it seems a bit thin so I have thrown some red lentils in. I hope this works as we have a dinner guest tonight!!!Debt busting! Jan 2014 £7632.50 £7445.80

I've got a piece of brisket in mine today surrounded by chunks of carrot, potato and swede, with onions, stock and some red wine. It's been on low since first thing and it smells gorgeous!0
