last night i cooked chunks of lamb and carrot in a mint gravy, this morning i thickened the gravy and popped into a large casserole dish with buttered sliced potatoes on and popped in over. serving it with homegrow runners and mushy peas oh and some yorkshire puds, having it in a mo, anything left will go in a pie or stew. One day I will live in a cabin in the woods0

in mine is two HUGE pork chops
apple juice
tomato puree with a dash of worcester
leaks
onions and garlic
carrots and potatoes
no idea how its going to turn out but even if the stock is disgusting i am sure the chops and veg will be fine0 -
Cat_Addict wrote: »In all honesty no. The 3.5L are quite small, can't fit many veg or potatoes in. You'll end up with it full up to the top and its not supposed to be. I get about seven or eight servings of whatever I cook from the 6.5L so I do us five for a generous tea and then me and my boss for lunch the next day. Her 3.5L one does her and her husband and then us for lunch the next day.

You cook for your boss? Can you come and work for me?:j
I have just got out my sc which was a wedding present 25 years ago. I used to use it lots but it got put away and forgotten when the kitchen was altered.
Can anyone tell me if I can put a whole joint of brisket in it, on top of some vegatables and leave it all day. Will it work and how much liquid? I usually do casserole but DH has requested a joint.
Many thanks
I'm no expert Looby-Loo but I think you can from having read lots of posts on this site. The trick is not to put in too much liquid (stock/red wine) because a fair bit comes out of the veg and some from the meat. Sounds delicious. Glad to hear you've re-discovered your slow cooker.0 -

I start my meatballs off in a pot on the cooker. I don't fry first.
Last week I did 500 g lean mince shmooshed through my fingers
Added finely chopped onion, worcestershire sauce, breadcrumbs, small bit of cumin and formed into balls. Then I added it to my sauce which was a carton of passatta, filled carton of water, 2 cloves of garlic, an oxo cube, salt and pepper. So effectively I "stew" the meatballs. After about 10 minutes like this the meatballs are formed and I transfer to the slow cooker for as long as I like. Last week was 5 hours slow and my critics said they were "the best ever"
Yesterday I did a mild chilli (fussy son) 500g mince, cumin, chilli flakes, worcester sauce, ginger, onion, carrot, turnip (hidden veg) and some oats. Smelled magic when I was transferring to a tub last night.
This morning I've just put in 4 pints of water, 3 veg stock cubes, half pack lentils, carrots, 1 potato and some bacon offcuts. This will render a week's lot of fantastic lentil & bacon soup.
