Just had a thought, my meatballs are made small and the reason I make them small is once I made them big and they broke up. Might that be the reason?Grocery Challenge M: £450/£425.08 A: £400/£.May -£400/£361 June £380/£230 (pages 18 & 27 explain)0

Hi, I want to buy a slow cooker sized between the 3.5l and 6.5l, can anyone recommend theirs, and is it very useful to have a crock that can go on hob or in oven?
Can't wait to get started!
Thanks in advance.
I'd get as big as you can. I started with a small one that couldn't be used on the hob/oven and I hardly used it. Couldn't fit much in so it wasn't good for batch cooking or cooking joints of meat. I also cook pretty much everything in my slow cooker so when I'm making curries, chilli, bolognaise etc, I like to saute onions and garlic first, and I found it a pain transferring from a pot to the slow cooker.
I now have a 6L one with a removable crock that can go on the hob/oven and I use it all the time because I find it so convenient. I like being able to batch cook, do joints in it, and the flexibility of being able to saute easily.0 -
I am cooking a jamie oliver recipe (ish)
lamb shanks
tinned toms
cumin, coriander, chilli
Balsamic vinegar
white wine
chopped carrot, celery, onion and garlic
It has been cooking since 8am and once my husband finishes stripping the walls, we will be putting our baby to bed, lighting a fire and enjoying a nice warmed bottle of red wine, with lamb shanks and mashed potato.
Bliss!!!
And I should add, not that expensive with cheap shanks, leftover white wine, value tomatoes and some floppy celery0 -
Just had Caribbean Chicken for lunch!!! With jacket potato. Was lovely. Kids needed some convincing, but me and hubby thought it was great! I am amazed that I can cook something that tastes like a nice sweet and sour sauce and it hasn't come out of a jar!!!!0
