  • I've made a positive start:-

    Yesterday I
    - Went for a walk in the park.
    - Did a manicure and pedicure and been remembering to reapply hand cream after washing my hands.
    - Went to bed before exhaustion kicked in and hence applied night cream etc

And this morning I've listened to a hypnosis CD for weight loss that's helped before.
  • Thanks for the new thread Bitsy :j

Determined to break down my goals. So get fitter needs some specifics like the daily walk.

What I love about this thread is that you have a 3 month timescale to aim towards and measure progress. Instead of looking at the whole year and nearly fainting with fear!

Like others I need to give this some thought :A

Good morning all and thanks for the welcome! No hangover from the gin thanks Bitsy! Decided to start Christmas yesterday as work finished for 10 days, OH poorly with flu (and don't we know it) 2 DDs out so had a couple of large gins and watched Father Ted Christmas Special. First little glimmer of Christmas spirit.

I joined the thread because although I do look after my appearance it's all a bit superficial, if you know what I mean. I'm overweight, unfit, have a stressful job that I love but not sure what it's doing to my health.

    So, my goals..

to lose some weight. I reckon I'm probably 3 stone over where I should be but a stone by the Spring should be doable.

To get fitter. I spend my life sat on my bum and our lovely dog died earlier this year so not even getting out for a walk with him. Thought about Couch to 5K when evenings start to get lighter. Anyone done it? Is it suitable for a very unfit and overweight middle aged lady?

To sort out my wardrobe and ditch anything ill fitting or that would look better on my teenaged daughter

To tackle stress. Started this last year by cutting hours and things are better but need to think a bit more about it. I have stress triggered migraines and seem to be getting them more often now.

That'll do for now. Looking forward to hearing more about all your goals.

Its an absolutely miserable day here - pouring down with rain and windy  Was going to go for a run this morning but that's been abandoned now.
So instead I dug out the Shred DVD and did level 2 - haven't done it for ages so found it quite hard work but finished it - probably won't be able to walk tomorrow! The dog is definitely on the mend - he wanted to join in and did as many situps as me!:rotfl:

If the rain ever eases off a bit I'll give him a 30 min walk - he hates the rain and has only been around the block this morning.

For the first time in months I slept until 9am - must have needed it - and was woken by my mum singing happy birthday down the phone (yes it is my birthday, she hasn't gone bonkers!). I'm 41 today - not at all fabulous! I'm sticking at 40 so am ignoring the date;)

I plan to give myself a bit of an overhaul today as I'm stuck indoors with the rain - so I'll finally dye my hair, defuzz, do a face and body scrub and redo my finger and toe nails.

Fab to see all the new members - and great to hear that your mum is so much brighter Hewie. LL - looking forward to your positive thinking posts - could do with some today! 41

Have quite a bit of housework to do and a few errands to run so better get on with it.
Hope everyone is safe and dry. xx
  • Happy birthday WelshWoofer.

Well done on getting some exercise in despite the weather... have been thinking of doing the same.

Been years since I used an exercise DVD, but if there's any day when working out here rather than in the park appeals, then today is definitely it. Rain has just been relentless. Glad I took advantage of the sun and got out in the park yesterday, I don't like staying indoors too much but I like getting soaked even less.

I did Couch to 5K in the summer and found it really good. Would definitely recommend it for a beginner (as I was). You start off walking and jogging for only a minute or so at the start and build up over the weeks to running continuously for 5K - it does work if you stick at it. If you struggle at any of the levels repeat them the next week instead of moving on - its not a competition so take it at your own pace. I found it really helpful to have it on my iPod - you can download soundtracks to run to to tell you when to walk or run and it times it all for you. I found it much easier doing this rather than constantly trying to look at my watch or time myself.

    Good luck!

    Good morning everyone

Welcome to our newbies, lovely to "see" you all.

Esmy - yes stress is the big one isn't it. Well done on recognising the need to tackle it. I think that's half the battle won.;)

Great quotes Curly Top. I agree - it's all about taking some responsibility for ourselves. No-one is going to do it for us.

We women spend so much time running around after everyone else - especially this time of the year. I do love the ASDA ad with the Supermum - bang on. I think most of us know and understand exactly what is being said.

So to the newbies it's all about taking a little time out for ourselves and reclaiming back our lives.

    It isn't selfishness - it's self preservation.

    Back in a mo.....
