I work at Sainsbury's and yesterday was very very busy, people doing their christmas "big shop", the usual 30 second trip out to the shop floor with a rail or cart of items to stock was taking a good 5 mins to negotiate round the customers and other staff, so save your sanity and either go very early or late lol!
DP is off to do our last bit of food shopping this afternoon when he finishes work but before our little three get back to school after a pantomime, we don't need much really so going to get it today so as not to be running around at the weekend, he is working tommorow too and I am working until 5pm sunday, lucky to have christmas eve off so going to enjoy it with the children0 -

we managed when all shops were closed on sundays.
and it was only down to peer pressure from the big supermarkets etc that they relaxed the sunday laws..
I know times have moved on, but i personally think if they cant do their shopping in the opening hours now, then it would be the same if you extended the hours too..
We are more or less ready, just got to kill a turkey on the weekend and then our meat is sorted...
just need to top up on milk etc
We also managed without electricity but times move on.0 -
Not sure when I'll have chance to do my 'big shop'. I am in work everday until Christmas Eve [when I finish at 5.30pm] and I have been in work everyday except Monday for the around 13 days. Monday was no use, given how far in advance it was and I had to wait until payday [today].
We haven't got a turkey yet either, as we always buy frozen ones and our tiny freezer is full of other things [we wanted to buy a new, larger one, but money is tight]. So, I'm hoping to get that tomorrow or Sunday and then leave it out to defrost [we usually cook it on Christmas Eve, so tomorrow would be better]...
Eck. It is going to be fun!0 -

Good luck getting your shopping done.
Thank you lol.I am sure it will be fine. I am just normally a lot better organised than I have been this year and the work rota has been against us all [most of us are in every day and have been for at least 2 weeks]. Goes with being in retail at Christmas I suppose loll.

My mother is coming up to take me to Waitrose, Sainsbury's and Lidl.
I have been doing non-perishable stuff since November and finished that last Saturday with last Ocado delivery before Christmas. I've got Abel & Cole coming Monday which will be the fresh stuff.
All I actually need tomorrow is Hayward's piccalilli, Cornish Yarg and prosciutto.
I'm really dreading it ! I'm convinced that for my mother it's all part of the fun.
Will you be getting the Yarg in either Waitrose/Sainsburys'/Lidl Edwardia? It's OH's favourite cheese and apart from a couple of delis the only place I have found it supermarketwise near me is Morrisons. Have you ever had the garlic version (wrapped in garlic leaves instead of nettle leaves) That seems to be even harder to find near me than "normal" Yarg...DFW no.554 - Proud to be dealing with my debts :TDAVID TENNANT CAN PROBE ME WITH HIS SONIC SCREWDRIVER ANYTIME...:AFLYING THE FLAG FOR THE CAMBRIDGE BOOTS TARTS :happyhear0 -
Hi Buffy. it's my mother who is the Yarg fan, one year OH and I bought my parents a whole one from Lynher Dairies www.lynherdairies.co.uk for their wedding anniversary so they could stash it on the freezer and indulge as they wanted.
Waitrose and Sainsbury's sell Cornish Yarg at the deli counter here, I've never seen it pre-packed and my local Lidl seems to have Continental cheeses only.
Between us, we've tried three Sainsbury's and one Waitrose so far and no Yarg.
Did get the Hayward's piccalilli thankfully. Having snapped up an organic Laverstoke Park Farm beef roasting joint on offer at Ocado a week ago, failing to produce Hayward's Piccalilli and Branston pickle would be a divorceable offence as far as OH concerned.
Lidl looked well stocked apart from the Gressingham duck crowns which were somewhat decimated and they have Branston but not sure whether still 69p.
Sainsbury's produce aisles were full of bods constantly restocking. There was plenty of bread just no organic left. Many of the staff were wearing Santa hats and they all seemed pretty cheerful. The Higgidy quiches looked like people had been rummaging for furthest dates. I picked up 2 organic rump steaks for £5 for dinner mmm.
My mother's garden is overrun with wild garlic and we pick it in the spring mmm. I think I prefer the nettle Yarg just slightly.0 -
I wonder how busy my store is between 8pm-9pm yesterday today and tomorrow. We normally close at 8pm. Last few years we opened to 10pm and there was no one! Only transactions after 8 were colleagues buying a few bits from the YS section. So glad HQ have taken note. As those hours that colleagues worked til 10pm could been used at times when its heaving.
I working til 9:30pm tomorrow. Its a good time to shop after 6pm0 -
Thank you Edwardia, the last time I checked the deli counter in our local Sainsbury's for Yarg was at least a year ago so I will have another look
We bought a couple of whole small Yargs back from the Eden Project in September, I never thought to bring more and freeze them!

I'm doing a small shop tomorrow morning after work. I finish at 6am and to me this is a perfect time to wander round the supermarket without been too stressed. I know it will be slightly busier than my normal weekly 6am shop but a lot quieter than if I tried to do it at any other time over the weekend.
I only need the essentials - cat food, wine, maybe choc cake, cream, maybe more wine and that will be it. I hope. Although I finish at 8am christmas eve morning I have no intentions of doing any food shopping that day.0
