My mother is coming up to take me to Waitrose, Sainsbury's and Lidl.

I have been doing non-perishable stuff since November and finished that last Saturday with last Ocado delivery before Christmas. I've got Abel & Cole coming Monday which will be the fresh stuff.

All I actually need tomorrow is Hayward's piccalilli, Cornish Yarg and prosciutto.

I'm really dreading it ! I'm convinced that for my mother it's all part of the fun. :(
  • No it doesn't. It's already tomorrow in Australia, my brother lives there, and if the world had ended he would have rang me. :D

You obviously haven't been following this huge forthcoming event. :D
It is all based on the Mayan calender - not the Australian ! :rotfl::rotfl:

Dreading the shopping tbh - left to my own devices would not go near shops in last couple of days but going to elderly Mums on 22nd and by train so have to shop on the Sunday and Monday - eeeek.. and she normally has pre-prepared meals so have to cook with a small microwave, kettle and a toaster.. what a challenge - oh and I am vegetarian!

Customers that shop at our store think we are open between 9-4 and on Sundays 10-11 and then 3-4. Why? We are open longer

Im not looking forward to Sunday. 23rd Dec is the busiest trade day of the year but only have six hours to cram it in. I'm surprised that the govt has not relaxed Sunday Trading laws like they did during the Olympics and Paralympics. Thevlaw should be relaxed if the 22nd Dec is a Sunday as well

This reminds me of my MIL. We went to the market, she bought some veg and paid for a cauliflower round the other side of his stall. We walked round and she inspected each and every cauli with a loud and derogatory comment until eventually the stall holder gave her back the 70p and told her to *** off.

I took my last chance to go nearly child free shopping this am. I was in town by 8.45 and it was very quiet.

I went to go into one independent shop, linen and tea towels type of shop, and the assistant said 'not open yet, come back in 5 minutes'. The lights were on, the doors were open and he was by the till. It would have taken me five minutes to choose.
I did not go back! He obviously doesn't want my custom.

    lol love the mil part

  • middy, i would have to disagree with opeing longer on a sunday if it fell on the 22nd/23rd..

we managed when all shops were closed on sundays.

and it was only down to peer pressure from the big supermarkets etc that they relaxed the sunday laws..

I know times have moved on, but i personally think if they cant do their shopping in the opening hours now, then it would be the same if you extended the hours too..

We are more or less ready, just got to kill a turkey on the weekend and then our meat is sorted...

just need to top up on milk etc

  • Please may I make a request , if you are shopping on Sunday , please listen to the tannoy announcements that the store is closing , and go to the checkouts on time . Otherwise you won't get served after a cutoff point .
Had a couple last week trying to buy iTunes cards after 4 pm , they were not happy as system was unavailable to load the cards . Tough luck , turn up earlier then

  • I went to Aldi yesterday morning and it was mayhem! The root of the problem were the enormous trollies full of boxes the staff were using to re-stock shelves. It was virtually single file past them. It took just one person to stop and inspect what they were buying and massive queues formed behind them and tempers flared! It was a nightmare! Then went over to Sainsbury's and, although busier than the average Thursday, it was quite civilised. Pleased to say I am not going near another supermarket now till well after Christmas!
