    Just emailed Tallgirl.....

    :o Oops.

    Start 53300.48
    Current 45599.54
    Paid off 7700.94

Shouldn't have bought that car :o.

[STRIKE]Hopefully [/STRIKE]will make up by end of challenge!

It should also be around 200 lower as Egg have added interest on but not deducted payment made on 2nd Jan. I have emailed them but sent to TG now as I may not be about much the rest of the week.

Hope everyone has made more progress than me :o. Sorry folks

  • I've also just PM'd TallGirl so thought I'd let the rest of you know my update - under £5k now!

If we try hard we could pay off within 2 years . . . but . . . I really need a new window (it's been broken since we moved in 5 years ago so it really is getting to be need rather than want!) so might take a month or so longer but still well ahead of target!

Also as we haven't got any savings elsewhere (all in offset) we are thinking about withdrawing some to put into an isa before April to take advantage of the tax allowance (It would be paid back in about 6 months) - what's everyone think? Good idea or not?

  • Hi everyone,

We're also going in the wrong direction due to hubby and I retraining (fortunately I sort of cover my costs with a grant but he is living off the savings).

I estimate it at about 15K now - but will check when I get home and PM TallGirl with the latest figure (I know it's supposed to be 31st Dec, but you'll get the 8th Jan value - hope that's OK :))

    HI MMC

ISA savings IMO are always a good idea because of the tax advantages to be had. And unless you chose one with specific tie in clauses then if you do change your mind you can get to the funds pretty quickly (quite often the same day). HTH

    Mortgage-free Glee!
Yay! I've finally paid off the Interest Only part of my mortgage!!

This was supposed to have been covered by an endowment but after receiving a load of warning letters suggesting that it was underperforming and would not cover the £38k mortgage, I decided to cash in the endowment and overpay my mortgage instead.

I have now paid this off, except for £1 which I have to leave in this account or suffer redemption charges. I have paid off the £38k mortgage in 20 months instead of 14 years.

Well, one down and 2 mortgage accounts to go! I'm starting on my home extension loan next - currently around £45k.
