  • Well done everyone, and happy new year!

Just about to PM TallGirl, my update is an outstanding balance (after my ISA unofficial offset) of £41,500 - and my interest rate dropped to 2.18% from 1 Jan, so almost everything is capital payments for now!

Hi all. Hope you all had a great Christmas and to those who didn't I hope this year is so much better.

Just looked at the mortgage account and after the next payment goes through tomorrow we will owe 29010! It will be really tight to finish the challenge on time but we're trying. I get a 2% pay increase this month and DH gets a 3% one so we can put the extra we pick up towards the mortgage too.

We paid the balance on our holiday just before Christmas on our new 0% credit cards so have that holiday money in my savings account earning interest until the 0% time is up. And obviously all our interest will be going towards paying off the mortgage.

DH is currently on his way to buy a camcorder with our christmas money. The one we wanted was £300 and we got £205 towards it for christmas. But now it's reduced to £200 in the sale so I'm all excited about getting my new toy - and for a bargain price:j .

Just phoned up for an exact balance now that the overpayment has cleared, and its 49,991  , I know its not much different to the 50k I predicted, but the 4 at the beginning makes *such* a difference ;):D:D
    Mortgage Total: £51,549 / £75,000

Managed to do a proper account round up this month. I know how much we owe towards the savings and I have a firm plan towards paying it off. I did the proper yearly budget and worked out that we will be clearing a minimum of £300 per month towards our savings. We won't be doing much to the house this year cause DH wants a rest from it. Just the finishing off bits of half done jobs!
We also had the holiday discussion and have decided that we won't go abroad this year. We will travel to Scotland for a week or 2. Anyone who has ideas for cheap free stuff at Troon please let me know!
So just over 4k to repay to savings. Better get on hadn't I!

Well done to everyone just a quick reminder that the next chart is due so please PM me by Saturday to get on it. Remember we just need your current mortgage balance as of 31st December so any regular payments will counted as well as overpayments.

Look forward to hear from you.

I have sent a PM to TallGirl with my update but we haven't managed to pay off as much as we would have liked. Mainly because I had planned to be on maternity leave until my return to work today, so money was tight. It is now tighter as I was made redundant in early December, so until I have a new job we will be limiting our overpayments.

However, since we got the new mortgage in October 2007, so 15 months ago we have managed to clear £8410. I estimate that £3106 of that is down to the overpayments and that doesn't take in to account the interest savings so still not bad.
