Why is it that we are so afraid of stuff like this? Why is it that people get so agressive about it when you say that you are overpaying?
It is a kind of warped society when it is more acceptable to be in debt than it is to try and pay off the debt isn't it?

FWIW I didn't have the bottle to do the article so you're very brave both of you!

On other news, I was scrabbling round looking for my phone bill and a cheque that DH has stashed and I found an envelope with £380 in it sitting behind my ginger jar. So I shall go and stick it in the bank along with DH's pay cheque which has been sitting there for 2 weeks grrr!
At least my figures have improved though!
    Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.
    MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.
    2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.
  • ...... having paid off my mortgage in 4 years and 2 months recently, and posted on here a wee while ago to tell you the good news, (thanks for all your congratulations everyone! much appreciated), Woolwich / Barclays have completed the admin and have just sent me the title deeds and a letter confirming I owe them nothing. Just arrived in this morning's post.

I'm sitting in my house, feeling so relieved - MY house, they cannot lay claim to even one brick of it any more!! What a great feeling.:D

This is what you're aiming for, guys, and I'll be cheering you on. :j :j

If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

  • H,

Just wanted to thank Jillinoz and angelavdavis who broke cover in the Telegraph article :A (no seriously - I wouldn't have been brave enough to do it...Kaz's thoughts about aggressive responses also worried me!)

I keep very quiet about paying off the mortgage to almost everyone, although I suspect people will rumble that something's up when we do a downshift next year :)

Jillinoz, Angelavdavis - can you PM me a pdf of the article ? Want to keep it with me for motivation :D

Take care and enjoy the freedom

ps Congratulations GQ on getting that letter - here's hoping I'll be in that situation soon !!!

There's another thread on here with a link to the article, which works, I only read it for the first time today. Its great, and very detailed. How sad that this aggression thing is a problem - everyone I know is secretly a dfw,I think, even if they don't come on here!

I counted up my 20p tardis money box(don't ask dr who fans),and managed to get 80 pounds which I have put into the savings account to offset the mortgage.
So thats 80 pounds less that I have to pay mortgage interest on and in the end find to pay it off completly.
On another note I should manage to put another 200 in the account by the end of next week from what I have made on ebay.

Well done to every one who has paid their mortgage off I hopefully will be joining you in the next couple of years.
