Hi everyone,I have just changed to an offset mortgage and with the savings I have offset I am saving approx 80p per day or 24 pounds a month,I know it doesn't sound a lot but it's better than I was saving previously(0).
My goal in the next couple of months is to get the interest saved per day to 1 pound.
    Good luck everyone Amazamum x

I wonder how many people will come looking for the thread?

I read the article this morning (I only buy the Sunday papers and spend all week reading them, a money saving tip I saw was mentioned somewhere on here also!) and decided to have a look!

I would love to join the challenge (with Mr Red) but am I too late?

    Mortgage 71250
    Secured loan 22500
    Other loans 30000
Student Loan (although it barely counts!) 5000
    Take home salary 46000

  • How exciting was it to see our challenge in print! Well done Angie! :D

Thanks DD. I was happy to do it. Not sure about being on the Southern Counties Sussex Breakfast Radio show this morning though!
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

Fantastic news can't belive we have made it into the Telegraph and one of us is going to be on the Radio. Well done to Angeladavis and welcome to Jillinoz.

Things are OK here but cat had to be taken to the vet for an absess £50 later he is fine - hope this ill cat thing is not a MFiT thing.

I forgot to renew my parking ticket in Exeter yesterday, 20min late on a 24 hour ticket cost me £60. Crap really but then I got a text to say our Christmas bonus is £600 this year which is fab so I felt better again.

Doing my first mystery shopping today in a mobile phone store. I know so little about contracts ect as I have only ever had a works phone so a bit worried how it will pan out.

Hi TG - thats a bit up and down moneywise, isn't it! Glad the net position for you is up, tho! Good luck on the mystery shop - and the fact that you don't know much about contracts is a bonus, you'll be in the position a genuine customer would be! Hope it goes well.

I'm a keen mountain biker too (I tell everyone I moved here for the bikes and not the dykes, if you get my drift ;))

You'll have to say hello next time you see me out and about on one of the bike trails, although I don't travel everywhere with my tree for company, so may be difficult to recognise! :D

I get your drift ;). I did the full Mary Towneley loop 2 weeks ago, it took us 11 hrs to complete the 48 miles (well, 50 miles because it's a mile of cycling before we get to the loop). One of my mates had a heart rate monitor/computer thingy and it registered that we had burned off 13,200 cals during the ride!

I was absolutely knackered by the time I got home and I'm still sporting 'bed sores' from my bike saddle. I did ask Mrs Dither and then some of my work mates if they would like to rub some Savlon into them, but surprisingly didn't get any takers  .

I'll be doing part of the MTL again in a couple of weeks, but only from hebden bridge rail station to Holme Chapel (then back to my village, down the A roads). If you and your partner (if he/she (;)) also mountain bikes) fancy a zip up there, let me know.

  • Hi,

I am keen to join the MFiT group. As you will see I am severley debt ridden (too many years in higher education!).

I am keen to reduce my mortgage by £40,000 by April 2010 and pay off my debts (currently at £45K) - no mean feat but I am detemrined.

As for practical/achievable goals it is borderline but we can but try.

Is it still possible to join the list?

    Hopefully so.

HI Ellabellabo you are welcome to join us and if you read post 1 and 2 it will explain everything you need to know. Please note that this challenge now only has 2 1/2 years left to go so good luck.

I would have thought it would be advantages for you to clear your debts first before overpaying on your mortgage but I suspose it depends on how much interest you are charged on your debts.

I still have other debts too - fact is tho, that altho paying off my mortgage makes astonishingly little impact on my cash flow, its the highest interest debt I have - at 6.03% variable. The other stuff is at 5.7% fixed and 0%. Weird.

    Hi DD

In a hypothetical situation, it would definitely be a he rather than a she, but since I'm currently flying solo, the clarification is purely academic, although frequently necessary when one lives in HB. :D

Yes, I would definitely be up for giving my new bike an inaugural spin along the MTL (warning: self-indulgent moment coming up - it's the only one of it's type in the country and I'm travelling down to London the week after next to collect it).
