Boiler installed - not been asked to pay?!

Thanks, yes your right I don't want to mess up his cash flow, I've asked only for the free warranty, although still have no details but I will chase from manufacturer, and I've asked for an invoice amount now so that there are no surprises that I will pay once it is registered and I can verify it with gas safe.
What about this benchmark thing that someone said on the previous page cannot be done retrospectively?
I'm nervous to offer 50% as he has gone all this time without anything, he may just take it and run. I'm hoping to get a lodger so need this sorted by the book!
I'm close on knocking my head against the wall here,You have the boiler and the installation, come on, he can';t take that and run.
Pay him his fair do's and the rest as I said, on delivery of all paperwork.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
OP what is the make & model of your boiler ?
yes it can take upto 4 wks for GS to send the paperwork through to you, however it is not a legal req to notify GS but BC do need to be notified for the building regs, if your boiler is reg with GS then they inform BC on the installers behalf, lots of details here.
you can reg the boiler yourself with the manifacturer there should be paperwork there for you to do it but you will need the serial no.
the benchmark book should be filled out when the boiler is commissioned, if a boiler isn't commissioned then it is illegal to leave it connected to the gas supply.
If you are happy with the install & you have checked with GS that he is reg & has boilers on his reg/card then i would arrange for him to come around & fill out the benchmark book (as the boiler warrenty is worthless without it being filled in) & pay him, however you already mistrust him which isn't good & if he doesn't notify the boiler with GS you could have a prob if you try to sell, BC will come round & confirm it complies with building regs however i think this is around £250 it would be much cheaper for him to do it through GS which is £2-50 + vat if he does it online.I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
Personally I wouldn't part with a penny until he comes around and does the benchmark paperwork, which is supposed to be done at the time of the install if it it to have any value.
This guy sounds dodgy as hell, why did he not ask for a deposit before the job was commenced? Is this his normal working practice? No free lunch, and no free laptop

It's not the manufacturer's problem, it's up to the installer to do the correct process.
I don't understand your comment about 'what warranty I would like'. The warranty is whatever the manufacturer provides, 2 years, 5 years or whatever, and this is at no cost-what 'terms' are you talking about?
If the boiler is not installed as per their instructions (which includes the benchmarking and commissioning, the any warranty will be invalid. No free lunch, and no free laptop

which is the reason i asked for the make & model of the boiler then we could at least tell the OP what the standard warrenty is, you can activate the warrenty yourself (it's no different to anything else you buy but the benchmark book has to be filled out for it to be valid for when they come out on a warrenty call) as i said the installer doesn't have to notify the manifacturer & GS won't do that either.
the benchmark book will look something like this or it could be part of your installation & servicing book

He offered an extra two years warranty for £120, but couldn't provide terms detailing what it covered (ie parts, or labour etc) so he said he could only register the boiler once I had told him which I would go for. As I say, I asked for paperwork to consider the value of this and had nothing back.0

But your Baxi already has a 2 year warranty on it, and if it's registered by 31/3/13 then that is extended to 5 years. So why would you want to pay him for an additional warranty? Additional to what? What exactly is he trying to sell you? Why would you even consider paying him an extra £120 for an unspecified warranty?
Just tell him that you do not require anything from him other than to complete the benchwork/commissioning process, and register the boiler (or you can do that bit yourself).
It's very much in your interest to get that extended warranty in place before the cut-off date. With a Baxi, you're probably going to need it...No free lunch, and no free laptop
