  • So envious of all these wee bargains, the cost of grocery shopping in Ireland means a bargain would cost twice (at least) for these 'value' items!

Hobbitfancier, I lived in Lisburn for a while and travelled around visiting friends in other areas. Get to know what stores are around and also markets. I found one of my local independent shops had better bargains than the the Tesco up the road!

Not in Hampshire either. Clearly there's a misconception somewhere out there that everyone in the South is affluent! :(

Snowleopard, do a bit of research as there's bound to be a store (of some name) near you that stocks similar stuff. I lived in Hounslow just over 10 years ago and there it was wheelhouse (never seen another one!) and wilkos which at the time I'd never heard of as they were non-existent then in Scotland.

  • Thanks unixgirl - I'm a bit hampered by being a non-driver, although I'm lucky enough to pass an Aldi most days so that it's kind of my 'corner shop' :D. Wilkinson's is brilliant, and there is one in the general area where I live, just not in my patch, so it would be worth my making the occasional expedition.

I was like you - a non-driver and my nearest Home Bargains and B & M a 20 mile round trip away. I either had to get DH or DD to drive me there or have half a day out by myself and go by train! The savings I made more than paid for my train ride and I came back laden like a packhorse! ! However, we now have our very own Home Bargains (in the old Netto premises) and B & M (McKays premises when that shut down) so it was great excitement for a week or two - until the novelty wore off!

  • Morrisons saver razors about 27p for 10. They don't go rusty or blunt very quick, I was really surprised at how good they are (for legs and under arms) have tried other cheap razors before and have all ways found they were not very good.

I *think* its because rent is more expensive so doesnt make it as worth it for the shop to have shops down south?
