Does anybody know if Vodaphone's anytime minutes are cross network?
Thanks.0 -
yes they are, I think most tariffs are these days.0

It does seem a good deal.
What I dont understand though, is that with pay as you talk, cross network minutes are 35p a minute. So, for someone to make a call, it will cost them £1.05 for a whole hour? I just don't see vodafone doing that...
I am on a £50/month 500 cross-network and 1000 sms package, from the sound of this, I'll be able to drop my minutes down, as I'll never use them all with only 3 minutes being taken off for every hour i use the phone...0 -
LadFromWales85,
I agree it seems highly unlikely for Voda to do something like that unless its just landlines (or maybe at a push voda mobiles)!?!
In my experience, I found its Voda that are behind on any price plans. A perfect example is they are the only network to charge 30ppm for first 3mins then 5p thereafer (subject to a 10p minimum call charge). Thats 15p extra per day it costs you not including those quick calls that cost you 10p (the minimum charge) on voda. All other networks (except T-mobile) only charge 25p for first 3mins then 5p thereafter (2p thereafter on o2) and only subject to a 5p minimum call charge.0 -
Its definately possible for Vodafone to do this. It's not as if it costs them 35p per minute to connect your calls to another mobile network, but as its never been done before, I find it hard to believe it will happen
Oh well, only til the first of May to wait!
I don't agree that Vodafone have always been behind. Take Vodafone Original for example. They are the only network and priceplan that has offpeak between 6pm and 8am! They were charging 2p for weekend minutes when Orange were charging 10 minutes per £5 topup!
Look at it now, landline and Vodafone calls all evening and weekend for 2p per minute. Actually I think its still 5p to Vodafone's, but its still cheaper than any other network/price plan. Free voicemail access too!
o2 is only 2p after the initial 3 minutes at weekends. I'd rather use Vodafone, and pay 2p per minute without a premium first.
My usage has changed though, hence the high end contract price plan. But if this turns out to be true, I'm gonna drop my minutes down, since I'd have to make 166 separate off-peak hour long calls to use up my minutes!0 -

Nah, I do make some peak rate calls, but a lot of the calls I make are off peak. With this change, my minutes should last til the end of the month without problems
Problem is though, is that it will be even harder to keep a track on how many chargeable minutes have been used...I'm sure all the Vodafone contract customers here know what I'm talking about
It gives you a total number of minutes used, but this includes every minute, even the free weekend minutes. There is no fancy unbilled system like on o2, just one long list0 -
The Voda original plan they have withdrawn except if you were lucky enough to be on it and are still on it - besides if my memory serves me correct don't you have to pay a fee to get calls offpeak at 2p on the original plan?
I was referring to the the current plans they have now. Unfortunately, I don't have a certain pattern of calls that I make ie mostly daytime or evening - it can vary. So for me Voda's original plan would be way too expensive during the daytime.
Update: o2 had a off-peak plan where calls where cheap but were expensive during the daytime but having looked on their website they've also followed suite and withdrawn it as well.0 -
Yes, Vodafone Original had a small service charge, £5 per month, or just under 17pence per day. It depends when you use the phone if it benefit you. At the time, I didn't have access to a landline, so I had to make all my calls from the mobile. Now I use the great and wonderful call18866/call1899 for my landline calls.
I think o2's peak/offpeak tariff is still available to 'Retail' customers...I dunno about Online.
It was called o2 PAYG Original wasnt it?
I just tried finding my welcome leaflet for one of my older PAYG SIM's, as I remember it listing both PAYG tariffs. The new ones don't, so obviously they've started being quiet about the peak/offpeak tariff. You used to be able to change to it with a simple text message. But these days, who knows.0 -
It was called o2 PAYG Original but it's not even available to ordinary retail (or online) anymore (according to their website anyhow), it's just TalkaLot or the newer TalkalotMore where you get free off peak mins for topping-up by £15 or £30 (I think).
To me the only reason I can see why they stopped the off-peak tariffs is that it wasn't financially viable for them (the networks) whereas their 25p for first 3mins (5p more for voda) is!
The worst culprit for this was T-mobile when they stopped the standard plan and moved most people onto the Everyone plan. Obviously 25p for first 3mins didn't bring t-mobile that much money so now most people are paying 30ppm until they spend over £10, then it's 20ppm until you've spent over £20, etc..... All this only applies within a month after that you go back upto 30ppm.
Anyhow, that's life and from my point of view I'm happy on o2 online's 300text tariff.0
