Could you please tell us which Supermarket this was so I can avoid them. As PersonOne has said, I don't like the idea that discounts should be given based on how cute somebody looks.0

Oh bah humbug to those who want to 'out' the supermarket so you can boycott it. It's Christmas, someone was being kind can't you just be happy for them? Thanks OP for posting - I found it a touching story0

The sad thing with the world today is the amount of skeptics living in it, or there are a lot of unhappy people who have been scammed one way or another and don't trust anyone.
Tenke that's a lovely thought. There's a homeless person in a nearby town who sits on the step to a disused office, for whom I buy a pastie and cuppa from the bakery when I'm shopping. He's always so grateful for something warm at this time of year. If I see a person who looks like they could do with a small gesture of kindness I'll do it and be blowed to the miseries who think I'm a mug.
I just hope the posters here never get ignored if they're ever in a position of need, but what goes around comes around...0 -
Wow, can't believe this has turned into a massive debate already!
It's lovely that someone was kind enough to do that for the couple, who cares if they were old/fat/black/white!? Just be happy for them for goodness' sake!
On a lighter note, I was out on a night out on Saturday and went to McDonalds for something to soak up excess booze. Whilst in there I bought a meal for the homeless guy who was outside nearby. He must have been freezing, and I thought it might warm him upawwwww! (but i didn't see all the other people that were out come running to ask why I hadn't given them anything...)

It's not like it's the store's official policy, and I can think of far more important reasons to boycott some of the major supermarkets. Do you really begrudge someone a discount just because you (or whoever you consider deserving) didn't get one too? Has anyone been harmed by this gesture of seasonal goodwill? Would you be less disgruntled if they rolled dice to decide who should get a discount?
If it's not the store's official policy then it's theft and I'd rather not shop at a supermarket that employs thieves and fraudsters.0 -
I think that a few people are missing the point of the OP.
What a lovely thing to do, wish I witnessed more acts of kindness, even a smile or hello goes along way. You never know the impact that it can have on a person.Recently married and loving it x0 -
Wow that is really harsh. I for one am behind the kind actions of the cashier :j
It would have been kind if she had paid the discount with her own money.
It's not an act of kindness to steal from others to give to who she decides is deserving, unless she's mentally ill and thinks she's Robin Hood.0 -

Yuk. There's always one.
Lucky for that cashier that they didn't do their kind deed in front of someone like you rather than the OP. You're the type who'd scuttle off home and complain to the store's HQ in the hope of getting them into trouble.
Needless to say you wouldn't have the guts to say anything to the cashier at the time...;)
Merry Xmas :TLove the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harrass them, don't deprive them of their happiness.0 -

I'd ask what it was straight out. Some of us have the courage of our convictions.;)0
