I'm afraid you also seem to have missed the point. There's been no suggestion that the cashier in question was handing out fivers of her own money.

(Sorry about the fridge, by the way.)

I didn't miss the point, what I was trying to say is that no one on here knows the reasons behind the gesture or whether there was any arrangement with said store management. I fully appreciate why others have thought and said that it wasn't her own money. I was purely trying to show that sometimes there is a flip side. It's all speculation, there is no way of knowing either way. :o

Thanks about the fridge...new one arrives on Thursday :D

I agree with the people who said this will not have been the cashiers idea, this is a corporate gimmick and it's a bit of a stretch to call it a 'christmas act of kindness'. Would perhaps be comparable to call starbucks voluntary £20m corporation tax contribution a christmas act of kindness too...

Re the fridge, if you leave it to stand for 6-12-24 hours, any trapped gas bubbles will rise in the coolant, and you may find it works fine then (from a quick google).
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

But I bet you're happy to use Google, shop at Amazon and buy Starbucks coffee.

Yes, they are doing nothing illegal

Well, congratulations to the cynics and doubters! You have ruined a perfectly good thread with your bad feelings! I hope you are happy and can now spend the rest of the year merrily wallowing in your self-pity because you weren't the one getting the 10% discount (which of course you would have refused because it was theft!).

I think some of the posters on this thread should go and live in a cave somewhere where the rest of us can't bother them with our lose morals and false ideas about generosity.

And yes, this sarcasm is necessary. It's my revenge as I started reading this thread thinking it was going to be a positive one, only to discover it has been spoiled by you lot!

Why can't some people just be happy for others? Or just happy?

You seem very bitter? If it was fully authorised by the company then fantastic and nice one for the elderly couple but its just highly unlikely and as such as mentioned many times its giving someone elses money away and its very generous to do this when its not your money.
