I have looked at my Santander accounts online today and see that when I click Direct Debits it says I don't have a valid product. It said that before as I didn't have (and don't yet have a current account with them), only savings. But as I indicated above I sent a DD form off last week (posted 14/02/13). I see now that under the 'Payments and Transfers' tab then under 'Pull money in from an external account' the account I specified on the DD form is there where previously there was nothing as I have never previously linked an account.

Does this mean that Santander have messed up up or is this because I don't have a current account. Or will I have to do the pull manually and will it show up as a DD to Halifax. Gawd all this for £5!

The pull from another account with Santander wont be a direct debit its done either as a faster payment or a standing order. I know this as thats what it does when I use it to pull money from my Halifax account to my Santander one.

So will need to look at something else that uses a direct debit to take the funds. Why don't you open a savings account with tesco bank and set up a direct debit for a pound each month to go to the savings account.?
Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.

I am hoping someone with an ING account can help me. I've linked my ING account to my halifax account by sending in a cheque and the link is now showing online. But how do I set up a regular DD to take money from my Halifax account to my ING account? I've logged into my ING account and I'm looking under "Move my money". It only gives me to the option to move money FROM my ING account, not to it. I'm confused!

Don't have a DD on my ING account myself, but their FAQ suggests:
Move money automatically every month by setting up a regular savings payment free of charge either online or by contacting our call centre on 0845 603 8888.

you can only set up a standing order, not dd, plus halifax wont allow this anyway if you want to claim an incentive as they want a BGC, so thats the question, whether you can get away with sending a SO instead, but from the replies i dont think we can...we will have to wait and see...

The terms and conditions are crystal clear - you need two direct debits, from two different organisations, and they must pay monthly.

There is no need to 'wait and see', it's all totally clear. Has been, since about January 3 2013.

Why are you talking about BGCs and SOs?

In case of doubt: his thread is about the forthcoming changes to the Reward and the URCA.

It's all in order. This is how the DD shows at the Santander end. You need to check that it shows as a DD in your Halifax account (against which the DD will get executed).

If you set up that payment by filling in the Santander DD form, it is a DD. It will show as a DD in your Halifax account. Certainly does on mine, and the payments have been taken twice already, in January and February.

    Yes, click HERE

thanks, i managed to find out....out of 2 people that did try without salary...

1 managed to keep the £100 incentive...

1 wasnt even given the £100 incentive to start off with and assumed that due to not having an automated payment was declined the incentive!

.....yet i have recieved the incentive but not sure whether they will withdraw it back?....since they have not given an actual deadline, they can claw it back at anytime, they maybe take it out when my account is empty and leave me in overdraft so i have to pay a fortune in unplanned overdraft fees, since its calculated daily

Would you mind stopping to contaminate this thread with your questions/comments about your £100 reward. Ask Halifax whether it's yours or not if you are unsure, and please leave this thread to what it is supposed to cover - i.e. the forthcoming changes to RAs and URCAs.

I posted something earlier in the thread about the way Santander have set up these "DD's". They managed to c**k up 2 of my 3 (despite the fact all 3 forms had been completed identically, but with the relevant account number), and on trying to sort their mess out, I am told by Santander that these are not in fact DD's but "Funding Mandates" and are not quite the same as DD's. The one they set up correctly is showing on my Halifax account as a DD, and the other 2 should be there as well (and hopefully will be!), but as you say, they won't appear on your Santander account list of DD's.

Thanks. Yep it does show as a DD at Halifax. I asked Santander on the form to make the first DD on 10 April, monthly. I guess I might have been best asking for it to start sooner so as to check it out.

Yes, there is an option to move money to it - use the drop down boxes on from/to accounts, and there is also an option to set up a regular transfer. Just done it myself - took me less than a minute.

This is why I decided to start them from Feb, knowing what Santander are like, so that if there were any hiccups (which there were), they'd (hopefully) be sorted out before the deadline. I'm just hoping that they've sorted it out now, there's no sure way of knowing until the next payments are due to come out next month for me. You could always ask them to change to an earlier date, though it does mean more 'phone calls etc, as unfortunately, this can't be done from online servicing.
