  • Hi All, Just heard about Halifax's new T&Cs via MSE News.
    - The wife and I have 5 reward accounts between us plus the Clarity CC - thats £30 per month, that comes in very handy. We don't want to lose these accounts.
Can someone produce a list of accounts that can will accept DDs?

Apparently BOS Ultimate Reward / Reward accounts are not currently changing over to the new criteria.
This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com

But if you are interested in the Home emergency cover then you need the Halifax variant as the Bank of scotland account doesn't give this benefit.

Or you could get yourself a Home Emergency insurance.

So you suggest getting the BoS account or another premium account and then paying more for the additional cover which you get for free with the Halifax account?

You could also get mobile phone insurance x2, worldwide travel insurance x2 etc etc instead of taking those that come bundled too.....

    Maybe I'm missing something?

No, I suggest that I have yet to find a good reason why I should take out the insurances I need with a bank rather than with an insurance company. I don't have, and don't need, any premium account. I am sure lots of people are my situation.

Also, you do not get any insurance for free with the Halifax Reward account - you'd need to pay for the URCA.

If the total cost of the individually sourced services/insurances you need are more than the cost of a premium account which provides the same then to me there is no decision to be made.

And my in-laws just found out that their separate boiler cover which they pay £15 a month for with Domestic and General didn't cover a problem with the main flue, something that was covered under their bundled RBS cover. An expensive lesson in not checking the small print I guess but goes to show just because something is bundled doesn't make it gives poor cover.

Spot on, latecomer. I pay £15/month for one of my bank accounts as I believe its the cheapest way to obtain what I would be paying for anyway. Its slightly different to what I would get if I were to purchase the insurance directly, but the extra cost to me for the difference isn't worth it in my opinion.
