Mum died this summer so Christmas is going to be a bit strange this year without her.0 -

Thanks.
Just from watching the posts on MSE, there's going to be a lot of other people in the same position.0 -

Have you not heard of the word NO.
I do not do anything I am not happy with.
I only visit people who invite me and I enjoy their company.
I only invite people to my home who I like and we can have a laugh and enjoy each others company.
Well you are very lucky to be able to do that:)
I guess you are an only child;)0 -

No, grown-up kids and no grandchildren on the horizon yet!
I've got the comfort that my parents have had good, long lives and seen all the next two generations make their way in life.
It must be so hard for people whose parents die relatively young.0 -

I have pretty much free reign to stay at my brother's with my DD and my husband on our school holidays etc, but I always ask in advance, and if its not suitable, I have no problem booking into a premier inn nearby so I can still do family christmas with them (in fact I've just this morning sorted that out).
Just joking but maybe you are brother's unwanted guests lol? Even though they said they were busy - you still booked yourself into a hotel so you could be with them. Bless.
You see it's not so easy to say no when people are so persistent....I mean what's balletshoe's brother supposed to do

Count your blessings OP
I do count my blessings - it's just that "my family of origin" don't count as one of life's blessings:rotfl:

True to form she's always hours late.... 0 -
If you really don't like your family, just stop.
I have family members I barely see and wouldn't cross the road to say hello to, DNA is not the be all and end all!
You can do it without cutting all ties, just back away, always be busy, say no to things, before you know it you'll be on Christmas card terms if that's what you want.0
