Well we've arrived at the part of the year I truly hate and the thought of the weeks ahead feel me with so much dread:(

I can't be alone....I thought I'd start a thread.

This is what I'm dreading

1) My sister and her family have invited themselves to stay with me and my family for four days and 3 nights (this weekend). My sister's kids are a nightmare. My sister and her husband are a nightmare.

2) My family and me are due to go to my brother's next weekend. My brother's daughter is a nightmare.

3) I have a night out with some old colleagues. Not particularly looking forward to this - but it will be short;)

4) I have to spend boxing day with my in laws.

OH !!!!!! please shoot me now....

So depressed.

Who are you dreading visiting/ being visited by?

  • 'You have to...' 'They've invited themselves...' Why?

Has the word 'No' been expunged from the English language, and have you been fitted with handcuffs, incapable of making your own choices?

No one would presume to 'invite themselves' to stay with me, and I would never go to any function I didn't want to go to. You could always find an alternative commitment that you couldn't get out of - couldn't you? In any case, this is far too late for people to start 'inviting themselves'. Most people had their arrangements/plans made long ago.

Have you not heard of the word NO.

I do not do anything I am not happy with.

I only visit people who invite me and I enjoy their company.

I only invite people to my home who I like and we can have a laugh and enjoy each others company.

I agree, whats all this "invited themselves"? I have pretty much free reign to stay at my brother's with my DD and my husband on our school holidays etc, but I always ask in advance, and if its not suitable, I have no problem booking into a premier inn nearby so I can still do family christmas with them (in fact I've just this morning sorted that out).

And I am sure your relatives and work colleagues are looking forward to the bundle of fun you will be!

Seriously though, couldn't you just say no? Why put yourself through this?
