Totally trashed the budget this month, another weekly shop today so put it in January as most of the week is still January! Never mind, at least there is room for improvement! :)

Managed a no spend day yesterday!

Will do a mini top up shop on Friday to get some fresh bread and veg for weekend but should be sorted from now until Monday or Tuesday! :)

Have not been able to post since joining January's challange, been really busy. Had some money from DS2 £20 which was owed to me. He is not working at the moment, but dosen't start work again until this Friday. I have gone over my budget of £40 leaving a total of £57.57 which is not at all too bad. A new February total of £180.00 please for me. I don't know when DS2 will be paid next month so that is the bare amount I can manage on I think. DS3 is eating me out of home at the moment 2 hours after his tea he is mooching around the kitchen looking for something to eat. He is 16 and 6ft 4ins and like a bean pole. Why couldn't I have had dainty little girls!! only joking I luv the boy to bits! Good Luck on February's challange everyone, hopefully I will be able to post a bit more often next month. x

My chicken and butter arrived today, so that's another £40 to add to the budget, but the butter will keep us going for about 3 years :rotfl:

I left half the chicken at my mums because she always feed us when I'm home late (even though I don't ask her to!).

    Budget so far: £124.84

8.2% of the year gone and 5.2% of the budget.

I've stuffed some of the chicken breasts with mozarella, tomatoes and some basil. We'll have it with some spinach and loads of veg. My mouth is watering just reading about that :rotfl:

Taking mum to the shops later, so might pop into M&S to get some steak. Sizzling beef strips (my claim to fame in this thread) sounds tasty for 'lunch' tomorrow.

Just me in this evening, so had a scoot around the cupboards, fridge and freezer. No meat was defrosted (pointless just for me) :( Had no rice and no pasta, but found some lasagne sheets so finished the remains of the box and broke them up to boil (white pasta not allowed on my housemates low cholesterol/overall healthy eating diet apparently). Fried some celery, a handful of soybeans and peas from the freezer and some sweetcorn with garlic, ginger, chopped red chilli, soy and oyster sauce. Mixed all together and although it doesn't sound great, it certainly was inventive and is better than the alternative of going to the chip shop which was tempting me in! :T

Some of the best meals I've ever eaten have been made with little bits of this, and little bits of that! The worst thing is that you can never, ever recreate them :rotfl:

    Hi Everyone

Can anyone tell me if the February thread is up yet I have looked but cannot find one.

    Thanks
It certainly is - it can be found HERE

Also, I forgot - the mushroom 'soup'. I don't think I've EVER eaten anything to filling! I had it for lunch yesterday at 2ish, having not had anything since breakfast at 8. I couldn't eat anything after that, actually had to leave some of it as well and I didn't even have a huge plate - was probably the equivalent to half a tin. Will definitely be making that for work again in the future!

Lost count a bit in the last week but pretty sure I went about £50 or so over budget but very happy with that as January is always a hard, long month and we had an unexpected trip to in-laws which I had to cater for as well.

So as today last day of my budget month and should be a NSD I am going to end here and join the february forum. Well done to all those who managed to come in on/under budget and dont give up to those who went over.

    See you in February :j

  • Well, I haven't quite stuck to the meal plan this week... was so exhausted yesterday aht DH went and got dinner from the chip shop :o Luckily that came out of his spending money, so the budget is no more over the limit than it was before.
Have managed not to throw any food out though, which has been good - it's amazing how much more you value things lurking in the fridge when you know you can't go to the shops and buy a load of new things!

I'm still working out the meal plan and costings for Feb - hoping to pick up a few things from my visit home at the weekend, as I find the shops in Wales to sometimes be cheaper and have more local choices than the big supermarkets in London....

Good news as well - SIL has finally found a flat and is moving out this weekend!!:j That should make the Feb budget go even further as I'm now feeding 2 adults instead of 3 :)

Good luck to all those still eeking out the last of January's budgets and hopefully see you all on teh Feb thread.

I am declaring at £252 out of £250. Am well pleased with that as this time last year I was spending £550-600 per month. Back to usual budget levels in Feb (£400) but am well chuffed for doing so well and now I have enough money to buy some much needed blinds for the bedroom!

Couple of NSD's here so pleased about that. Shopping tomorrow so will do a list later on tonight. Have done a meal plan so wont take long. Am hoping to keep it low as only £14 in cash left but do have plenty of gift cards and vouchers of which £30 must be used before April. So the cash and vouchers are easily going to take care of the shopping tomorrow and I WILL be coming in either on or under budget :D (hope pride doesnt come before a fall now) final total and update though tomorrow.
Have also joined the 'Dont throw food away challenge' and so far £0.00 It made me go and look through the fridge and cupboards straight away and already used up 2-3 things that would have otherwise been binned. :A
Meal plan for tonight was going to be sausage, egg & chips but late last night we got given a couple of hm pies that need using up today so we now having these with the last of the veg we have in. Dont know what they are though as forgot to ask - apple and veg anyone?? :rotfl: So the sausage has stayed in the freezer and will be used another day.
Lamb shank smelling delicious in the slow cooker for tomorrow along with some onions, carrots, celery, pearl barley and swede. Will do some broccoli with this and mash ohhh cant wait. Love lamb and not had it for a while.
