Evening all!
Small spend of £1.05 in Mr S today. Having to be really careful with money this month, because I overestimated how much money I could put into my savings (It was okay until Xmas and NY). I'm reluctant to dip into the savings at all, so it means the spends on grocery HAVE to stay well below my normal budget!Grocery Challenge Jan 24 0/300

I have used my supermarket for the first time tonight. Probably old news to all of you, but really helped to work out cheapest way of feeding my lot for another week. I have made a note of the prices. My plan is: on my way home from work on Friday, to go to Aldi first, right on my route home, buy anything that is cheaper than Sainsbury's, then go on to Sains and get the rest of it with my nectar points. Without the kids I hope to avoid buying anything else!Grocery Challenge (2 adults 2 kids)

Good evening, everyone. NSD for me today, but I'll need to pop to Mr M tomorrow for some bits for the weekend - mainly veggies, actually, but I'll get another loaf of bread to ensure we don't run out. Here's what I'll need to buy:
1 bag onions
1 jar of jam (just value stuff - the cheapest I can find!)
1 wholemeal loaf
That's it - nothing else will be needed before the next week's shop.Getting near to the end of the month now, and there's not much left of the "monthly" budget but we'll see how much over I spend. As it's an annual one, I've been working it out at roughly £150 a month. Looking ahead to next week's mealplan I shouldn't need to buy very much stuff so I won't be unhappy if I overspend by £10.
Anyway, sorry to ramble!

Hey up everyone,
Spent £52.29 today in Mr T's. stocked up on veg and also things like £2.99 pack of dried chickpeas, and lentils £2 for 2kg, also the soya marge for DD was on a good offer £1.50 a tub, or two tubs for £2. My lurpak was on offer too, 2 tubs for £4.
Ooo errr, just noticed DD snuck her parker pen cartridges in the trolley at £3 a pack, well they can come off the total for a start! Lol. So £49. 29 was the grocery spend today!
I was glad to buy proper washing up liquid today as the stuff i made looks like vomit in a bottle and isn't terribly effective anyway.

Hello guys,
Since being back to work, really not done as well with food shopping/meal planning etc.
Been off poorly this week, and in bed, very unlike me when there's a family to run! But I've been reading lots of the old style to get me back on track.
Since 24th December I've spent £242.26 out of my £300 budget. Not sure why I'm disappointed, suppose as I did so well the first 2/3 weeks I thought I'd smash it!! Anyhow, my month will go to 31st Jan, so if I can keep under £300 for 39 days for a family of 5 including wipes and nappies I shouldn't feel so bad and it's something to improve on, yes?!
Hope you are all having a productive, moneysaving week xDS 17 yearsDD 16 years DS 5 years

Completely blew the budget I set for January, but we are still under our normal £50/month, so I still consider it good. I have £1.60, so I'll be going to Aldi today to get 3 bags of onions to slice and freeze while they are on the super 6. I won't be buying anything other than perhaps milk before the end of the month. Next month I need to get some dried milk to use in cooking instead of using the precious fresh milk!0

Just wondering how you freeze onions? Do you just chop them up and stick them in the freezer?0 -
Mrs T, i find it very convenient and economical to use dried skimmed milk in cooking/baking and try not to use up the fresh milk we have, except for drinking it, having it in tea/coffee/hot chocolate type drinks.
......
Have been awake most of the night. Just peeled and roughly chopped a couple of parsnips, carrots, potatoes and celery sticks and an onion then poured hot water over them all in the slow cooker and bunged in a couple of stock cubes.
That will be tea ore or less sorted by this evening. Will probably just blend it with the stick blender and we will have it will home baked bread (from the bread machine).Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200
