    £1 today for milk.

i've done a tinned stock and freezers inventory and actually got everything onto a spreadsheet with help from OH. found a lot of stuff we had forgotten like cranberries and even leftover hm cranberry sauce from xmas 2011. i'm just hoping the frozen stuff is all still edible the oldest date goes back to 2010  if its all ok i think we could eat for three months without struggling for meat, soup, cheese and butter. will do dry stores next week when i have more time.

Made a delicious Minestrone soup this morning using vegetables from the depth of my freezer that were six months past their Best Before date. I operate on a 'need to know' basis so have kept this bit of information from my loved ones who all said that the soup was delicious.

Spent £33 in Aldi and really impressed myself as I sometimes get tempted into buying rubbish snacks and convenience foods 'because they are so cheap' and then we eat them all twice as fast 'because they are so cheap'. Bought staples like fruit and veg, dairy and bread and walked straight past the sweets and chocolates.

I thought that my family would complain about the cost cutting measures but oddly enough they seem to be really happy with my cheap and cheery creative meals! Haven't been able to motivate myself to plan a weeks meals as I am not a list sort of person, but stranger things have happened!

Hi, afraid have fallen behind with thread as real life got in the way! Day off tomorrow thank goodness! Think I got too used to the Xmas holidays :p

Have spent another £53.03 but this includes £12.72 at Mr T buying up a huge quantity of quorn on offer, so thank you to the person who mentioned that. Careful though, the 'chicken style pieces' are only on offer on the 500g bags and in my local store they were mixed in with the 300g. Cheeky.

Utter relief to go to !id! today, so much easier when there's only one choice of each product. My poor head can't take working out all the cost per 100g!!

    Another NSD here. :)

A budget of £20 for a month is quite outstanding - is this because the freezer is full from Xmas? I have deliberately set a target which incorporates entertaining expenditure because I would normally go out twice a week (and once would be 'out out'). But staying in would typically mean better food at the weekend as an incentive. I cannot begin to make a list which gets as low as £20/4.33 = £4.62 per week.

I would be very interested to learn some tips and tricks that can get GC expenditure this low.

Hope everyone reaches their targets tomorrow.

Apg is the asda price guarantee

Wombling is like the wombles of wimbledon, making use of the things (receipts) folks leave behind.

Hi spend of £5.50 in Mr A today. Had two APG's so that made the bill cheaper. Won't get any this time though as only had 6 items and two were the same thing lol.

Hoping for a smallish weekly shop on Saturday and one top up only midweek for bread. Off to menu plan now as I have inventoried the freezers.

  • Mmm, JJ, that pie looks amazing! Wow, I'm impressed indeed. :)

Popped on to add another spend of £20.57 today - we'll not run out of cereal for a while and I got a few other things we needed as my stores were a bit low. Hopefully just things like meat needed next week but I'll get mealplanning on Saturday for the coming week and see how the land lies.

I'm off to update my sig now - have a good evening, everyone.
