January 2013 Grocery Challenge

7 nsd's so far this year but then I do have a cold and broncitis so perhaps being ill isn't so bad! Small shop at Iceland £4 on free range eggs( now cheaper than Aldi) toilet and kitchen rolls and milk. Then a large shop at aldi of £43.61. Freezers , fridge and cupboards well stocked and meal plan done for the whole month. Next week should only need milk and bread and fruit and vegetables. I'm thinking of trying the local market for f&v. Hopefully on target for my first ever grocery challenge . It's been easier than I thought and has had a knock on effect with my weight loss challenge as I am loathe to raid the fridge and cupboards as it's a waste/waist of money. Genius why didn't I think of this before! Will try and update my signature. My secret fantasy is having 2 men....

I have spent £14.39 at Aldi today...top up shop for packed lunches as I forgot to order my Tesco delivery:mad: I've ordered it now though, for delivery tomorrow - it's estimated to be around £78. DH gets paid in 2 weeks, so although it'll be tight....it's do-able (I hope!!)20p Saver Club #33 60p/£100

I am feeling a bit disheartened tonight - been putting together my shopping list for tomorrow at MrA (using mysupermarket pricing) and no matter how hard I try and how much I drop off my list it still seems to be really high and that is even after I know that we will be changing the way we eat to get the price even that low. There is virtually nothing on the list that isn't either smart price or shop own brand so there isn't really any room for movement.
Oh well - I'm sure things will look better in the morning...
Sorry if this is really obvious but have you checked for any vouchers too to help get the prices lower? I'm also finding all the prices really high at the moment. Going to start putting together a little record of the prices of the top 20 things I buy so that I can tell when something is a good price or not....0 -

Yes after reading the tightwad gazette I started a price book last year and my shopping has been going down. I've gone from never knowing prices to knowing the best price I've paid for things. I still take my price book shopping with me with the shopping list clipped to the front and update it as I go round. My secret fantasy is having 2 men....

Another no spend day here
:T
Leftover chilli n rice for dinner. Ham sandwiches with leftover whoopsied ham for tea.
I've pulled out some whoopsied sausage meat for tomorrow's tea. Will probably make a sausage and egg pie.
Need some things at the shop tomorrow but will be a minimal spend and I have about £6 of APGs from wombles to redeem so some free shopping.
Doing more than well this last 2 weeks thanks to the morrisons promotion last month. 2 x £25 of free shopping.
Pretty much bought nowt last week and nearly doing the same this week is leaving me feeling pretty pleased with the budget.
Feeling victorious at so many NSDs to start the year with too!!!
Yay, for the grocery challenge:j

Made butter last night from 3 large pots of double cream reduced to 40p per pot so spent £1.20. Made 8 blocks of 150g and as its good quality would probably have cost £6-7 in shops. Also used the butter milk up today to make 2 batches of muffins and 12 cheese scones for visitors. So feeling very frugal and housewife-y :money: :j
Even better was that my mum bought the cream and only took 3 packs of butter - result!!! :rotfl:
BTW have been inspired by JumbleJack and another friend to do this so thank you xxHome Schooling mum budgeting for 2 adults, 2 teens, 2 little ones & 3 cats

I picked up a few bits of veg and reduced meat the other day so my monthly total now stands at 170.04 euros for the month.
I am due to go shopping tomorrow at Ald* but have quite a lot in the freezer so hopefully it won't be too bad. Tomorrow is also half way through our month so just two more weeks till pay day so I am very hopeful that I can keep under my budget.Trying to keep in budget.
