I had to go to Sainsbobs for personal ladies things (typical at my age i havent had a period for 2months as they are erratic and then i do when i havnt got any in!) Anyway they were on offer so thats why i choose to go there. I picked up whoopsied/yellow stickered bread which was reduced from £1.50 to 35p and some southern fried chicken wings reduced from £3.00 to 74p. There was a very large piece of beef reduced from £14.89 to £3.89 but it was going off. I toyed with the idea but then decided although i want to money save i dont want food poisoning. I couldnt have cut it, froze it or cooked it as i have too much food atm to get through and no room in my freezer. I used my nectar points for this as somehow i have got 2 accounts and i want to use the points up on one. So i used £2.50 in nectar points and then used 9p cash. I very rarely shop at sainsburys as its quite a way out of my way. I was actually going for there mango and chilli dressing but theyd sold out. Ive updated my signature. Oh i was wondering would anyone of bought the going off meat, or do you think like me maybe thats going too far!!0

Only 7 days in and already I'm amazed at how much I'm spending - nearly £50 so far for me and other half! And I did a big shop before Christmas to fill the store cupboard!
Interesting looking at the amounts - most of that £50 has been on fresh fruit and veg. (I don't eat meat). Which I'm not prepared to give up! However, must be able to buy cheaper...
My problem is I work full time (and some!) and don't have time (or inclination) to drive to the supermarket looking for money off deals. There are also some good outdoor markets around here, but again, by the time I'm done working, either they are shut or it's late and I don't want to traipse to them. If I want 4 pears, for example, I'll just buy them. Which usually means 5 min walk to Mr S local.....
How do others reduce fruit and veg costs? Don't have big enough garden to grow sufficient to make a difference.0 -
Hi, I am on my 3rd Breadmaker and this one is the best one i have had so far (Panasonic SD-2501) just been checking the price and it seems to have gone up since November 2012 I paid £105 hope this helps you .
I have the same model and I adore it. Spent ages saving up to afford it and was worried that I'd use it a few times then shove it on a shelf. It's one of my most used bits of kit - it's generally on three times a week. I even made pizza dough in it this evening for dinner.0 -

If I'm going to be cooking it anyway (sweet corn, green beans, green peas, most of the broccoli that we use, etc), I'll buy it frozen. A bag lasts a long while, is fairly quick to cook, and is cheaper than fresh. Lots cheaper when it's something that's out of season!0 -

Thanks for reply Mrs TM. Good idea!
I like my veg quite crunchy so not sure that would work for me - apart from peas and sweetcorn which I do have in the freezer but don't use that much (maybe as I can't see it?!?) * note to self - look in the freezer a bit more
I was just looking at the fruit and veg delivered boxes and wondered if people thought they were good Value for Money?
EDIT- No I think they don't! A weekly fruit and veg box for 2-3 has only 4 bananas and 4 apples! We get through at least twice that in a week, plus other fruit like pears....0 -

Today was naughty... I had a meeting for scouts not long after work finished (about an hour between them), and rather than rushing to get home and then go out again, I took something with me for dinner in between as I don't like eating late. Unfortunately, I found myself near the chip shop.... So much for the NSD! Better luck tomorrow - I've added it into my spend so far...*2016 - the year of the savings account!*

Hi all,
small spend today (down to me being unprepared) of £3.15 on a big tub of soup and a demi-baguette - which I ended up not eating as I realised I didn't have time to heat it up - and a greggs baguette which I had for lunch. At least there's something interesting for lunch on Saturday!
Will update signature.
