What are you expecting this Christmas?

OH and I have vetoed extended family this year! It will be back to being like our first couple of Christmas's together where we do exactly as we please but it normally runs like this this:
up, light brekkie of eggs and bacon for me and eggs and smoked salmon for him, 3-4 mile walk, home, champagne and pressies then I slowly cook dinner ready for bout 4pm ish. It doesn't matter if dinner is early, late whatever.....we then have a leisurely dinner, lots of alcohol, OH tidies up and then we watch a film. Bliss.0 -
Im working on Xmas eve and get home about 4am so will do all my veg prep on xmas eve and when i get home will have to look out all the bits and pieces for the kids as my other half never remembers!!!
Im expecting to be knackered when i get woken up at around 7 am, by my two delights opening their santa gifts. We will have a bacon roll and tea and milk for brekkie.
I also expect to be doing everything myself as my other half claims not to know what to do to help so the wine will be getting opened by 12 I think and will be having a sunday dinner basically with turkey crown and pigs in blankets and a choice of puddings.
Then we will open our gifts from family and to each other then settle down to put barreries into toys, hoover up and get comfy to enjoy the festive tv.
However on boxing day i will have 9 for dinner (mum dad brother his partner me hubby and three kids).
We will be going all out with beef wellington, and gammon with roasters mashed potatoes parsnips brussels and carrots with three desserts.
I know my mum will help me out, but everyone else will sit on their bums criticizing me for buying the wellington, rather than making it, aunt bessies roasters rather than making ones myself with duck fat etc.
Then there will be the wrong cream bought, i dont like baileys, do you have a healthy pudding etc.
Dont know why i bother really!!! Ungrateful beggars!!0 -
I'm hoping for a peaceful family Christmas Day at my sister's. What I'll get it is a frazzled sister (despite my getting there early to cook), a sulking mother, a stroppy teenage niece, a happy baby niece, a guessing-game on whether my sister's husband will be there (he doesn't live with her, and I won't know till that morning if we're supposed to pick him up on our way through), and a dog so paranoid it trembles if you so much as look at it. It'll be a relief to get home again ... I'd rather spend Christmas Day on our own as we did last year. Boxing Day we're taking an elderly friend out for a meal, and that'll be nice. Then I'm back to work."Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000

I expect to be woken up by an excited DH and open our presents. I expect DH will have way more presents than me. Then we'll go to my sister's for some drinks and to be hassled about not having produced babies yet. Then I'll feel sad, barren and empty but try to have fun anyway. After that dinner at MiLs where DH will play games on his phone, leaving me to force conversation with his brother and his fiancee. Will probably eat too much and drink too much wine before going home, watching some tv and then bed.Eu não sou uma tartaruga. Eu sou um codigopombo.0

This will be the first Christmas Day I shall wake up without my children at home. (12 and 9)
I shall sit in front of the stove and wait for them to come back at 3pm.
I expect they will then open their stockings and other presents!
We shall probably having some snack sort of tea and watch tv.0 -
I expect to be awake hours before the children as im always 10x more excited christmas morning than eveyone else despite being 33 and knowing full well i'll have a maximum of 2 presents to open compared to DH and the kids piles

I expect Dh to finally give up on sleeping and go make me a cup of tea at 4am
I expect to forget to take any pictures of the unwrapping until we are at least 3/4 of the way through, as I do every year, despite having the camera sat next to me
I expect to cook the dinner single handedly as no-ones allowed near my oven, I also expect DS to 'forget' that loading the dishwasher after dinner is his job and have to do it myself.
I expect to laugh at the terrible jokes in the crackers, mostly because DD is 4 and will just make up what they say and DS loves to come up with as many endings to 'what do you get' jokes as he can before you can give the punchline.
I expect to have to remind the family that christmas films are my 'thing' and if I dont watch at least 1 on christmas day im liable to become a stroppy mare
I expect to play board games with the kids while they try and sneak as many sweets off the tree and out of the tin as they can
I expect to go to bed exhausted

I'm expecting to have a long, boozy dinner and party with my friends in Kampala that havent made it home for the hols. Last year we expected about 5 guests and ended up with 40! Expect even more this year, but they'll all be bringing food and booze so no problem.
Sad that OH wont be here for xmas or new year as he is home visiting his fam, which I couldn't afford to join him for.
Not expecting any presents but thats ok.Mortgage free by 30:eek:: £28,000/£100,000

I love this thread!
I just wanted to add something to my original post as it seems a bit self pitying. I was just hoping we would have an alone Christmas this year but since we said we would visit OH's mum (as we haven't seen her on Christmas day for a few years) she has taken that to mean we needed to be invited for lunch and it felt rude to say no.
I will expect the kids to wake at 6:30am as they always do.
I will expect DS (2 and a half) to be excited at presents under the tree as he understands a bit more now.
I will expect DD (1) to be happy to play with the wrapping paper.
I will expect DD (12) to play with her new phone for most of the day....if she behaves well enough for us to buy one.
I will expect to get teary when I phone mum and speak to her and my 2 older girls who aren't with us this year.
I will expect to be secretly pleased that MIL has slaved and cooked and we have no washing up to go home to!
I will expect to have a few laughs and feel some contentment.
I will expect that once Christmas day is over I will be planning how our 2013 should/ will be.0 -
I'm expecting...a baby. Well my family are! I'm only actually due on 13th Jan but my bump's dropped down and my whole family are convinced I'll be early.
If i don't go into labour (which I won't - I'm not missing my christmas dinner for anything), DS will jump on the bed at approximately 5.30am to ask if we can go downstairs to "see if he's been" whilst the teen sulks at having to get up before midday. Presents will be opened and chocolate will be eaten for breakfast.
Hubby dearest will cook us a gorgeous meal and I plan to stuff myself stupid (but not indulge in pate or wine:().0 -
