Christmas in our house really about DS (5) this year. Am expecting him to be up early and wanting to tear into his stocking. Am expecting to do most of the cooking, with DH as sous chef. Am expecting grandad to arrive after lunch. Am expecting to relax and have a laid back time where possible. Am expecting to phone mum for a long chat, and sis for a shorter chat perhaps.
All in all the most we can ask is some smiles and happiness.

My mother invited herself for Christmas because she "doesn't want to be a burden" to my wealthier younger brother and because she doesn't get on with her eldest granddaughter whom she thinks is rude (true).

Last year we got told two days before she was due here that she was going to my brother's as other foreign-based relies would be dropping in there. She seemed to think this was OK we didn't.

We've already had two rows in which she said she wasn't coming.

So if it's just us it will be a bedroom picnic of sliced meats and cheeses with pickles etc while we watch DVDs in bed.

If we have my mother with us then scented candles, decs, big Christmas tree, crackers, presents under the tree, festive music, It's A Wonderful Life, Love Actually and Monopoly while we ply her with Abel & Cole mince pies, organic clementines and cups of tea.

For my first xmas with bf, i expect he may get slightly drunk...i've bought far too much booe and he doesn't drink very often so it doesn't take much to get him drunk :o

At home for xmas i expect i shall wake up on xmas day hungover, get up bleary eyed and go downstairs. Have a cup of tea and some toast whilst watching my younger siblings open their presents. Then i expect my parents will open the sherry, then we'll have dinner, present opening and watching dr who. Then i'll drink some more and go to bed ready for round 2 on boxing day.

Firstly I'm expecting to need lots of tissues at DD's first nativity next week - she's being an angel and she is going to walk down the aisle at the church in her walker.

I'm expecting DD to really 'get' Christmasthis year (she's 3 1/2) and so I'm expecting to be woken early with her usual cry of "no lion mummy!" (she once misheard lie in and its stuck!!! lol)

I'm expecting the present unwrapping to take hours - not that DD and DS get too many just that last year DD insisted on playing with things before unwrapping the next parcel so we were still unwrapping on boxing day afternoon.

I'm expecting to spend a lot of time in the kitchen cooking - got MIL and FIL coming to dinner.

I'm expecting DH to keep my glass topped up nicely whilst I do all this cooking and I'm also expecting him to do all the filling and unloading of the dishwasher.

I'm expecting to get at least 3 cook books for pressies from various people (I'm a cook book addict) but I'm expecting at least 2 duplicates so will probably end up doing swapping with my mum as usual!

I'm expecting to have a mountain of leftovers to deal with as I always cook too much - but TBH I don't mind in the least as leftovers are my favourite bit!

I'm expecting to have a wonderful time with my precious family and hope you all have a Merry Christmas too!

    I'm expecting....

To get up early Xmas morning to go to work, where it'll be 6 hours of craziness - whilst im there DH will be preparing veg etc for dinner (in reality he will start this about 10 mins before I walk in door, but will claim to have been doing it for hours!)

Once everything is prepared and or in oven we will open the presents, he will then spend the next 2 hours trying to work out how to use the ipod I have brought him, till he gives in and asks me to help him - he's not too good with technology.

After eating we will properly have a drink and watch some tv, before a fairly early night as I'm working boxing day too.
Other things I'm expecting over Xmas are...

Annual guilt trip from DH Mum, because me working doesn't fit in with her plans!

The cat knocking over/getting stuck in the Xmas tree

Looking for the baubles off the Xmas tree every morning as cat has removed them in the night

    Happy Christmas everyone!
  • I'm expecting to get up around 7, have some breakfast and then hit the road for a 2-hour drive to get some snowboarding in. We'll probably stop somewhere along the way to pick up a coffee. I'm expecting plenty of idiotic drivers along the way.

I'm expecting to then drive 2 hours to get home and we'll defrost something from the freezer. Normally we'd stop at a restaurant on the way back but I guess they'll all be closed and neither of us would have the first clue about turkey.

At some point we'll phone the parents in the UK - because of the time difference they'll likely all be merry which will annoy OH. We'll probably give each other gifts at some point in the evening. I might email some friends, OH will likely disappear onto his computer at some point.

I'm expecting that on Boxing Day we'll shift furniture and start painting.

I'm sure I'll feel down that it isn't a proper Christmas at some point. And that will be it.

16 guests for xmas morning all talking crap and pretending they do not know what their presents are(same every year for most of us) and drinking from 10am then off to the pub while i cook the dinner for them all. (I do not drink).

Hear them from up the road returning with my wife's nan wishing she was dead because being 94 is crap(she is fitter than me) while my mother gets that cd out every year with the old songs on..
Try to get rid of them before 7pm is the challenge of the day...
I love xmas because its the same every year...
One day my wife will agree for us to go to warmer climates for it... Until then..I get to do dishes as well..
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

I'm expecting (due shortly after Christmas) :)
So I'm going to be expecting DH to do the cooking once we're back from church. I'll do the washing up in 5 minute stints.
At some point DS will open his presents, and probably get over excited by it all.
I'm expecting calls from family, which will be nice, as we're not going anywhere this year and have made clear that I'm too pregnant for visitors!
I'm hoping not to have to spend the day in hospital, leaving my son with a good friend! If that happens, we'll open presents when we get back.
