Hi,
We moved into our council flat in September last year or should I say we got the keys in September!!!! We didn't actually move in until 3/4 weeks later as the place was an absolute tip. Whoever had lived here before had let their dog or cat rip the bottom half of the wallpaper in the hallway to shreds, the wallpaper in the kitchen was dark and dreary and the walls in our living room and the bedrooms were absolutley filthy and caked in dirt. I think actually there wasn't one surface that didn't have some coating of grease or grime on it. Me and OH spent three weeks working on it and making it livable for us and our DD to move into. We cleaned everywhere from top to bottom and I painted over the wallpaper in the kitchen to "brighten" it up. The biggest job I did was to strip the hallway wallpaper and repaper - bought end of line blown vinyl stuff that was on offer for 99p a roll!!!! and got that sorted. DD's room got a lick of pink paint and so did living room. Everywhere else is still much the same as when we moved in but it is CLEAN!!!!!!! We haven't got the money at the moment to be able to get anymore decorating done just yet but we will do eventually and when it does come round to decorating I know I won't have to declutter and have a major clear out before hand like I used to!!!!! We have loads of second hand furniture and I am always on the look out for stuff in charity shops, car boots etc. When people come round to visit who have beautiful homes, I don't worry about it. If they want to look down their noses at us let them. I wonder when they last cleaned their ovens or vacced under the furniture lol The main things I like to keep in mind are,
a. We have a roof over our heads
b. There is always plenty of food
c. We wear clean clothes everyday
d. Our bills are paid
e. our house is clean and tidy
f. We are happy!!!
We will eventually get the place the way we want it but it will be a slow gradual process as and when funds are available. For the people who have posted this moring, who are unhappy with their homes, babysteps is the key!!!! Jus to do a little at a time. RacyRed I love your idea of just getting one area prettied up - thats sounds great!! - something to look at and give you some extra added motivation!!!
Hope everyone has a good day today - hugs to all!!
EmMarriages are made in heaven, but then again so is thunder and lightning!!!.....getting divorced lol :j

sarahlouise210 - I live in a rented house which i had to stamp my mark on when i moved in. Fortunately i had the money to buy some paint. Have you thought about asking on Freecycle for some paint? You could do just one wall in one room which would make it a bit a bit brighter. With the plaster one my ex at his parental home had it falling off his bedroom wall, his mum got a piece of fabric and pinned it up to the wall covering it up, then she just hoovered up the plaster that fell down behind, simple but effective. What about again asking on freecycle for a rug to cover a bit of the floor. I have a huge one that covers the centre of my room i picked up for £12 from IKEA it covers up the horrid carpet and when i gets dirty (its white) it goes in the washing machine and comes out brand new (been through 6 years of punishment in 4 houses!) I also have a mishmash of furniture - nothing the same design through the house. I just got a pot of paint and a pot of varnish and painted then varnished them all so at least they were the same colour! Apart from that dont stress, least you will still have pride that its clean even if it doesnt look good.

Morning Fly-babes :hello:
Welcome new people
sarahlouise I know exactly what you mean though, my house is no show-home (wish it was) carpets need replacing, decorating/tiling needs doing/flooring down etc etc and so forth, but when I look at it and start to grumble I always think ' Well at least it's clean, warm and we've GOT somewhere to live', my aunty always said 'As long as it's clean it doesn't matter what it looks like' and it's true!
emmie I wish you lived near me as I've got 4 un-opened rolls of fairy princess wallpaper that I just don't know what to do with, I'd glady give them to you, and some spare pots of paint.

Hi all :hello:
Just a very quick visit this morn. Have read posts so far, which always helps my motivation. :A sarahlouise210 it is so much harder to focus when you are not feeling good about the house. Understand totally, I feel the same, but hopefully, after 2/3 weeks on here we will both be feeling better.
Well weather looked a bit brighter this morning, but looking absolutely horrendous again now. I have taken a weeks hols, and I so, so wanted the weather to be nice, so I could acheive more
I am not going to spend as much time on her today. It is too distracting from work
