Incidentally, I just discovered that is the same site O2 are quoting from.

Yes. O2 responded quite quickly to me. They said "We made a public announcement of the price increases in the media and on our website on the 10 December to advise the price changes. This is in line with us giving 30 days notice to customers that prices will increase. New charges will come into force on the 28 February 2013.

The 3.2% price increase announcement was made when the RPI was at that amount as per the last update made on the site you sent the link for dated 13 November. The link you sent me is the latest report as of today but as we announced our increase before today then the information we gave is correct. Unfortunately I’m unable to offer to cancel your contract without termination fees as I advised previously."

Hi, I upgraded my O2 contract via the carphone wharehouse. I have not recieved a letter telling me of a price increase (as some previous posters seem to have had). Does anyone know if this price rise will also affect me? (I am assuming yes - so not holding out too much hope).

    Thanks,

Everyone on O2 is affected. Doesn't matter where you bought your contract.

I got an email rather than a letter.

Outrageous. If I remember correctly O2 increased all its tariffs by 50p about 8 months ago. I know this because I originally signed up to £20.50 contract via d-a-p towards the end of the month, but by the time I received my phone the O2 website was now saying £21 * (all mins & txts the same).

Now technically speaking this is not a price increase during the first 12 months of my contract, but by any other guise that is exactly what it is.

A very underhanded move by O2.

    * I threatened to return the phone and contract unused as it was not what I signed up for - all the paperwork with the phone stated £20.50, but they discounted the line rental...still should never have happened though
  • My contract was up at the same time as the letter came through so I negotiated a rate (£5.00 less per month) with better benefits on the iPhone 5 via CPW. However, that aside, the terms & conditions state that the tariff will not go up and what they have increased by 3.2% is the line rental, which seems perfectly legitimate to me.
  • I'm furious.I only got a new monthly contract two weeks ago and now i get an email saying its going up.They should not be allowed to get away with this.

There's nothing to 'get away' with though-you agreed a variable price contract, not a fixed price one. The increase does not take effect until March 2013.
They are simply imposing a term of the contract which until now they did not do.

So with o2's above statement say if you got a contract 2 months ago and was not aware that their last price rice was ten months ago meaning two months into your 18 month contract you suddenly find yourself with an increase for the next 16 months is just plain wrong. They go on to say you can't leave penalty free because they only raise prices every 12 months works all one way in my view and yes you guessed it o2's
    [/U][/B]

this is exactly what has happened to me, i renewed 2 contracts around 8 weeks ago, 1 is a 12 month contract and 1 a 24 month contract.
i intend to complain about it, how much more are they going to charge me over the length of the 2 contracts.
i know they will hide behind the small print but what is the point of signing up for contracts if they can do what they want with prices once you are tied![/QUOTE]

me to, I upgraded my phone & increased my contract by £1 on the 20th Nov, at no point was it mentioned there was a price increase in the pipeline, put the prices up on new contracts that start on the 1st feb, we will all eventually have to renew so will have the increas, but the way O2 and other companies treat customers is appalling. I have already logged a complaint with O2, two days ago, and still waiting for a response, at which I will log one with Ofcom, and I hope every O2 customer does the same

I managed to get Vodafone to give me a "one off discount" to take my monthly costs back to the original agreement. I repeatedly asked them for a deadlock letter (which is apparently what you need to take to the regulator) - in the end they decided they would rather waive the increase than argue the case.

In particular, since I did the upgrade in a Vodafone shop I was seeking to emphasise that they made no effort to explain this could happen during the sale, and pointed out that at no point in the previous 20 years of mobile phone use has any provider pulled this one therefore I felt the upgrade was missold.

It's all very well for to providers to argue they are within the law (I suspect the unfair contract terms Act might be used to disagree) but, like Starbucks, if enough people complain, they may have to rethink.

After all, we are all facing increased costs - my income has fallen in real terms by at least 30% in the last four years - but unlike Vodafone, O2 et all, I don't have a captive customer base to shaft.
