I know that the date for your interview has passed and that you were unable to find/borrow the funds to cover your travel costs to get there so nothing I actually say is of much use now - but I have only just read this thread and just wanted to point out a couple of things.
1. No one forced you to join and post on this forum - yet when you have you have called people 'sick' for suggesting that you may use the services of a company such as cash converters (which I know you have stated do not operate in your area) to secure £5 to travel to an interview. I don't think that anyone meant to cause any offence to you by suggesting this type of service - nor did anyone at any point say that you should sell items of personal value to you - especially something that was a gift to you from your late grandmother. They were merely trying to offer a solution. I also feel that you telling the user who pointed out that she used a service like this to secure some money against her engagement ring that if you were her partner that you would be angry if she had done this was a little out of order. I am sure this was not a decision she came to lightly - and as she pointed out - she didn't sell it permanently - just used it to make ends meet for what ever reason. You came to this forum for help - and although some users have caused you offence/been rude to you etc. some users have made suggestions that could have been of help to you.
2. You made a point that you once considered joining the military until you realised/found out that you could be shipped off to Iraq straight after training. Now I maybe wrong here but I do not believe that we are in an active warzone with Iraq anymore - and more to the point - why would you consider joining the military if you do not want to enter a warzone - is that not kind of the point?
3. Your adviser at the Jobcentre may not have told you about crisis loans/budgeting loans etc. but they can't really be held responsible for that - I have never claimed any sort of benefits, as I am lucky enough to have never been in a situation to have needed to - but I am aware of these due to general research/publications from the government. A quick google search lead me straight to pages which explained many different grants/loans that are avaliable. I maybe judgmental here - but given that you have numerous email accounts and the knowledge of using more than one browser you are computer literate and can use google.
As I said in my opening sentence - nothing of what I have said is really of any use to you - I was merely pointing things out.
I really hope that you manage to get the issues with your JSA sorted soon, and that you are able to find a suitable job role which you are able to afford to get to soon - as I think from the tone of some of your posts you don't really like claiming JSA and are keen to work. I am sorry to hear that your grandmothers death has lead to a series of unfortunate events which have left you and your family to be in financial hardship/difficulty and wish all of you the best of luck for the future in getting yourselves back in a more positive position. As another member suggested - do read threads in other areas of this forum - including the debt free section and bits about budgeting etc.
Sorry if my posting causes you any offence - that is not my intention. I am just an insomniac passing some time and if I have caused offence please accept my apologies now.0 -
I know not all warehouse jobs are bad, I taken one that was only for 4 weeks Christmas period last year, not the most exciting thing but it was alright experience wise, I went on to do Carers after that.
4 interviews in the whole day, had another one today, say all you want Paul your comments are nothing but slanderous and abusive and highly judgemental and I will report you if you repeatedly carry on like that, I do thank the people who originally were harsh and abusive have made generally more neutral comments.
I don't have a problem with immigrants, they came to this the country for a reason and we can't let them sit around doing nothing they have equal right to work it can't be helped that some places are awkward sometimes.
I want off benefits asap I don't find it degrading, I just find the JCP too much unhelpful and I'd prefer to work and earn my way in life.
I see my adviser tomorrow.
Ha ha. Slanderous, abusive and judgemental?
Remember there are hard working people on here, some of them who don't earn much and are struggling. Then there's you who moan about a bus fair and don't turn up to interviews. You deserve all you get if your benefits are stopped now.
You really are unbelievable I must admit.0 -
You guys should give the OP a break. I went from being a printer on £15ph to £67.50pw JSA when the company went bust and boy was it a shock to my lifestyle. The shame and embarrassment of walking into that hell hole for a meagre handout was hell. It's so easy to judge those living on 'hand-outs' but if you've not tried feeding, clothing and paying your energy bills on this don't be so quick to judge others!
I have little doubt that the OP is trying his/her best in this awful situation and came here in good faith to ask a reasonable question and is now being ostracised as a typical dole scrounging dosser. Yes, there are some I know but the OP genuinely seems to want to get off the hell ride that is signing on for peanuts and should be cut some slack!
Yeh but Parva you worked and paid tax and I assume didnt make up excuses for not going to interviews.0 -
Sorry Paul but I've heard the "I pay tax why should you get free money" type of reasoning before it's pathetic and stupid, some people deserve the help some really don't and I know when people do not and when they do.
I've seen my adviser again on Wednesday and tried again explaining why I couldn't go, he phoned the interviewers up and asked if they could rearrange a date while he was looking at me in the eye saying it I said "Can you arrange it anytime friday please" and he just came out with to the person "9:30am right no problem thank you" i suggested Friday because my back payments were finally meant to arrive when I first made my claim and I'd finally have enough money to go.
I left and Yesterday I had to borrow £5 from my grandfather that's already in debt with the funeral costs because my grandmothers life insurance still hasn't come through for him, I felt sick, I waited at the bus stop from 7:40am till 8:20am just to find out the bus isn't in service.
Went to Citizens Advice Bureau explaining the situation and they even confirmed and have on file it was actually unreasonable to expect me to go when I was in middle of being paid incorrect amounts of JSA which was £30.40 previously mentioned elsewhere in the thread.
The adviser at CAB said I can complain about my adviser at the JCP seeing as he has been rude to me by chewing gum constantly smirking all time plus threatening 3 year sanction for first time when it's actually 4 weeks for a first time, and let's be honest if you went to an interview and the employer was chewing gum in a very sarcastic and unnecessary way and even just simply chewing, is that not totally disrespectful and wouldn't you walk away?
I seen my adviser again today, he made me feel real uncomfortable was still chewing gum and smirking away at me which shows a total lack of care for his job, I filled out the necssary form for not going to interview, I tried explaining to him that I've done more than enough, he tried saying that even though the bus I waited initially for wasn't in service that I should have gone late on a different bus that day and "just apologised".
Now be honest people, if you apply to a job and turn up late to the interview what's really the chance of the company taking you on? It would be impossible.
I've also been made to fill out more forms for 2 places I didn't apply for on the Universal Jobmatch site, my reason was because the companies were listed as "Company Confidential" and I've researched online and found while not all companies doing that are scams, but that a lot of them are scams to gain your details like CV info and Passport information.
Neither of the 2 listings had any kind of location, nothing about the hours of work, nothing about the company history, and obviously no company name, so to actually make my benefit to come into question about those 2 jobs is ridiculous, I even asked if he could help me find the information required for me to apply and he ignored me and made me do those forms you fill in for why you haven't applied for things.
I tried speaking to the supervisor but she was worse than my advisor, and I believe she didn't like it because I was making a complaint about someone that works there either.
I also know she didn't like it because I called the security of Universal Jobmatch in question due to security risks and also that giving the JCP access to my account is not mandatory like my adviser threatened, and I even had links written down on paper of proof that also includes peoples statements and pictures concerning the security risks of Universal Jobmatch and neither would take a look at it.
I really don't know what to do, I feel I'm being victimised because I'm young and they automatically assume that I'm just another dosser, I have voice recordings of both my adviser and the supervisor As proof on how I was treated and hopefully when CAB open again on 27th I can take them in and they'll help me take action against JCP, it's about time someone actually stood up to them, how people can live being on JSA I don't know, it's a nightmare and people are aware at my current mental state of what it's done to me.
Soon As I got out I actually found a young mguy roughly same age as me just had his benefit stopped and the JCP wouldn't even tell him where a homeless shelter was because he told me he was not to return home today by his family if it wasn't sorted out, so I walked him to a shelter that was only about 8 minutes walk away and I was disgusted the JCP couldn't even tell him where that was.
To be honest the JCP shouldn't even exist, almost all advisers are power hungry, they send you out to jobs well out of your travel area. They make some feel so sick an horrible that they attempt suicide while the lazy cheaters get away with things.
Damn right if it's possible I'm taking action against them and any compensation I get from it is going directly to homeless shelters in my area and some to the CAB.0 -
You have a job right there, be a spokeperson for companies. I wish you luck in the quest against the JCP.
Just 1 thing though, why would you feel sick borrowing money off your grandfather ? Yes it would be a last resort and nothing you would normally do but needs must and all.0 -
Now be honest people, if you apply to a job and turn up late to the interview what's really the chance of the company taking you on? It would be impossible.
I once had an interview and despite having looked at maps and believed it was easy to find, couldn't find it anywhere. 10 minutes before my interview I called to ask for directions but there was no answer, only an answerphone, so I left a message. I continued hunting around for an hour before I found the place and nearly gave up as to me it seemed increasingly pointless.
It turned out the council had just replaced a roundabout for a set of traffic lights, problem was it was an industrial park with loads of roundabouts so I kept turning down the wrong ones! Also the person I was trying to call had gone home early so the people interviewing me hadn't recieved the message.
Needless to say they were not impressed with me pitching up an hour late. I apologised and explained I couldn't find them and couldn't get hold of them but had left a message. They went ahead with the interview and to my amazement a couple of days later they called me and offered me the job.
So your assumption you would not get the interview never mind the job if you turned up late may have been the likely outcome but by no means certain. Being as JCP are were refunding the bus fare anyway it's not really your decision as to whether you think you should still attend or not, if in doubt you should have contacted them for advice. The people in the Jobcentre can be right unhelpful !!!!!!s a lot of the time, but unfortunately you shave to deal with that if you want taxpayer's cash. Just as in a job you may have an !!!!!! of a boss but have to put up with them to get your wage.
Good luck finding a job

Always a good idea to do a trial run of the journey to the interview if it's unfamiliar.0

[STRIKE]Why did you leave the care job?[/STRIKE] I realise you meant caring for family lol0 -

I'm sorry, you got it all wrong and it is your attitude to your job searching that is the problem, not the job centre. Yes, your advisor is right, you should have definitely gone another way. Firstly because indeed, even late, you still could have had a chance to be offered the job (I too gave a job to someone who was late, but had called, explained the reason, apologised, and had a decent reason), but also because even if you hadn't had the job because of it, at least you would have shown your commitment to the job centre. You were already on thin ground with your first excuse, it was more important than ever to show commitment.
As it is, you've shown that you really don't care and only want to look for a job under your own terms. If you really were as committed as you make out to be, you would have managed to found £5 in the first instance. In the second, you would have done your research about buses, contacted the bus company as soon as you realised no bus was coming to ask for alternative route, called the company to explain the situation and ask if it was ok if you arrived a bit late.
As it is, you are showing yourself as seriously lacking resourceful skills, something that any employers are keen on, especially in young people who lack skills in the field. They want someone who will learn quickly and will think of ways to do what they are asked to do, even if they don't know exactly how to get on with it.
Without sounding rude, I would seriously advise that you start taking responsibility for your failure in this instance. It is no-one else fault but your own. The least you can do is learn from it.0
