Yes I could have done all of those you suggested but they could also have sent me a email or text to inform me that there was a major price rise.
At the end of the day it would be good customer service if they did that and there is no reason why they could not do it when I have supplied them with my contact details.

Thanks for this OP, I hadn't even considered this happening but will make sure I check the price is still the same before I go to collect a reserved item in future.

I do wish you were given to option to pay for the item online before collecting it so the price was guarenteed. Home delivery costs extra and that's only if the item's even available for delivery.

Perhaps with their T&C's saying "you pay the price at the till" and the item's page saying "Offer ends xx/xx/xx", they just assume you would already know?

They can change the price of anything they want it does not need to be on offer for them to change it. You cant reserve a product indefinetly I think it's something like 48 hours.
Several times I have gone to Argos and the product does not match what they said it would be on the website and that includes prices.

4.3 The price you pay is the price displayed on this website at the time we receive your order apart from the following two exceptions:
    a) For products reserved online for store pick up or any other reservation service, the price you pay is the price in store on the day of collection.
    b) While we try and ensure that all prices on our website are accurate, errors may occur. If we discover an error in the price of goods you have ordered we will inform you as soon as possible and give you the option of reconfirming your order at the correct price or cancelling it. If we are unable to contact you we will treat the order as cancelled. If you cancel and you have already paid for the goods, you will receive a full refund.

If they can inform us of errors then surely they can inform us of price rises irrespective if a offer has ended or not.

I lived in the USA for 12 years they can teach us a thing or two about customer service.
They would have informed you if there were any changes to your order.
Poor customer service will continue in the UK while people are willing to accept it,

This isn't poor customer service though, is it?
This is Argos offering a service (to hold items for a customer until the customer can get to the shop).
Not all shops do this; so good customer service

    BUT

    A poor pricing policy.

Argos COULD hold items and guarantee the price - ie customer pays the price at the time of ordering.

Then, however, we would have a myriad of threads complaining about Argos reducing prices but not for reserved items.

Now maybe Argos COULD offer a 'reserve for best price' policy. So you pay the lower price when you collect, whether that was the price at time of order or the price at time of purchase.

And, Argos, IF you read this it was MY IDEA and a gift card (£100 min) would be much appreciated;)

I'd be disappointed, regardless of legal obligations etc, it's really bad customer service if you reserve something and when you turn up to collect it it's gone up in price.

Tesco's have been done for this scam recently. Advertising one price but the stores haven't got the item at that advertised price.

In my experience that's Tesco's standard operating procedure.

    Thats for orders, not reservations.

Personally I tick the box that says they cant contact me via email, dont want any more spam.

Does ticking the box simply mean they wont send you offers ?
They can still use it to inform about your order.
