And I'm sure that those of us with limited brain cells would be extremely grateful that they had reserved the items for us.
But I do not think I would be so happy if I had done the 38 mile round trip and then found out it had gone up by so much.
They could have graciously informed me of the change in price by the same means as they had informed me that the item has been reserved.
I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.

Its legal but it is definitely bad customer service. It is extremely annoying to reserve something at a given price, make the trip to the store and then find out it is being sold at a different price.

I presume you contact Argos when you reserve something and decide not to buy it?

I do not reserve unless I intend to buy it.

I am sure it tells you at the time of reservation that you pay the price that it is on the day of collection not the reserved price.

I recently reserved a TV (had to wait three days for it to be delivered to the store and the price had gone up £10).

Just had a look at a recent Argos - Thank you for your Reservation email.
It has Total price and no mention that the price is subject to change.

Again, there is still no contract offered or made.
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

I'm sure everybody is well aware of this. This has more to do with poor customer service than any laws being broken

Why not? You have the price in writing or durable form and therefore is sounds like 'lose of a bargain'.

I thought it was well known you paid the price in store on the day, not the price that it was online when you reserved. I remember before you could reserve online the automated voice used to say "Please note the price you pay is the price in store on the day of collection".

Not really. If you employ a tradesman you agree a price and they are paid at the end of the job. Therefore the estimate should be with-in 10% of the final invoice.

Argos's T&C need to looked into.
