What are your OS New Years Resolutions

Heres mine
1. No more buying masses of cleaning products.... I have come to realise I can manage with stardrops and bleach
2. Make sure I have a reasonable store cupboard. Recent illness has made me realise it is prudent to have at least a weeks worth of food in stores in case I am housebound, and I can afford this even on a limited budget (using the money saved on number 3 below)
3. Meal plan and stick to it. No more takeaways !!
4. Get rid of "things" that I knowingly hoard (and I know I dont need/use) to the charity shop ... declutter and help others at the same time.... and no more buying "things" that I will either never wear at least more than once... or ... never use on a regular basis to save time or money
Anyone else got any new years resolutions to help others in their OS quest ?
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy OS New Year x

i've been lurking on this area of the forum over the last few months but things are really starting to bite now so will be here a bit more often! What a great thread.
1) Meal plan for snacks/nibbles - my main spendiness is on chocolate in the college canteen because I haven't planned very well. I'm pretty good on cooking at home but out and about is another issue.
2) No more bought pizzas (my weakness) - I will make my own bases thanks to the thread on here the other day and the recipes that were suggested
3) Clothing purchases will be planned very strictly indeed - think I have everything I need now bar a couple of basic tshirts and some smart jeans.
4) give home brewing a try
Happy new OS year to all!

Thanks for starting this thread, Skint yet again :T. It's just what I need ................. Best of luck for 2013.
I've been joining in with the 'Declutter in 2012' thread for a few weeks - so my first one is to continue with it ................
........... but to also join in with the 'Flylady Thread' to make sure that this never happens again. I'm downsizing from 3bed house to 2bed flat in the next 2wks - so I must regain, and keep, some kind of control over my home.
Third resolution is to keep away from Shopping Channels, Lakeland shop - and any other 'Kitchenalia-type of place' - and to stop impulse buying in the charity shops.
Fourth resolution is to get myself a part-time job asap. I don't really care what it is - anything is better than sitting around/spending money when I could be earning it instead. I retired in July from full-time employment, but am getting 'bored off my trolley'. Besides which, my pension isn't enough to live on - well it might be enough, if I didn't want to enjoy a couple of luxuries in life - such as an annual holiday :j.
I'm also going to use my Polti Steam Cleaner far more than I do - that's what I mean about Shopping Channels. I see things I 'can't possibly live without'; buy them; then watch the dust accumulate on them
!
2012 has been my year of weight-reduction, fitness/health improving and better nutrition - so I want 2013 to continue along similar lines. I'm early 60's and the older I get, the harder it becomes to achieve/maintain weight-loss. My son is getting married in August. I've already lost 7stone and want to lose another couple before then. I'd love to be able to wear a sleeveless dress for it, BUT being realistic, them 'bingo-wings' ain't going nowhere without 'some kind of surgery' and that's definitely NOT on the agenda :rotfl:.
Good Luck to everybody with your resolutions in 2013 - remember to set yourselves Achievable Goals, folks!!!!!!!
In the words of the 'immortal Bob The Builder' -Can we do it? - YES WE CAN!!!!!
Edited to add:
- I cross-posted with you, Lionhearted Girl - Good Luck with your resolutions - you're off to a flying start there :T.0 -
try to reduce the amount of stuff in my freezer so I can defrost it and carry on staying away from the food shops as much as possible to keep my food budget in check0
-
1) just DO IT, whatever "it" is. No more procrastination.
2) stop hoarding things just in case thy might come in useful, or because I spent money on them. No matter what they cost, the cash is already spent and perhaps if these rogue items leave the house I stand a better chance of not brooding on earlier mistakesPlease be patient with any mis-spellings and typos I am officially useless with a touchscreen keyboard!!! :mad:0 -
Mine are:
- once I've had a small op I'm waiting for, to properly get into running. I've started doing small jogs, but at the moment can't manage more than 2K walk/jog. The op should be Jan time, and once I've recovered in Feb the nights should be lighter so I can run after work. Cheap than joining a gym!
- Keep a freezer inventry. I think I have about 7 portions of curry in mine currently, and there's only me!
- Lose weight. This is an on-going one!
- Learn to make stuff like chutneys, or a craft like candle making or crochet.

Exactly the same as JKJ point 2, have a lot of stuff that I don't take to the charity shop because I might need or because 'i paid good money for that'! Which is funny when you think that it is sitting there doing nothing, so not money well spent :-)
Meal planning - am aiming to do a load of batch cooking for the freezer over the Christmas break because spring term is always very busy so this will help me not buy ready meals.
Carry on really thinking about where my money is going - sounds mad probably to everyone on here but have done this for the last two months and it is amazing how much I have saved!
Still learning!2019, move forward with positivity! I am the opposite of Eyeore :rotfl:0 -
Mine are:
Decluttering the house
Losing weight/getting fitter
Growing my own fruit and veg
(and about a hundred other things I want to achieve but if I acknowledge them I just get overwhelmed and give up - they will be my spring, summer and autumn resolutions - or even 2014)£2 Savers Club 2013 - £28
20p Savers Club 2013 - £10.20
January 2013 Grocery Challenge 73.30/180.000 -
Well on the OS front my grocery spend is creeping up. I know prices are rising but I need to get a grip on this.
I was doing my annual spending totals last night and was surprised at how much I have spent on clothes this year. A lot of this is for the kids but again I need to get a grip on it. I think I buy stuff from ebay thinking its not really spending money so this has to stop!
On a personal front I need to find something to get me out of the house. I have dithered for ages saying I will get a second voluntary job (the one I have now I do from home) and I have to find the confidence to do this.
Oh and probably making OH and the kids do more around the house should go on the list too!0 -
Mine are to get a handle on the annual budget. I should have a reasonable surplus but don't even though I budget for everything. Clearly I am not quite as MSE as I could be and am overspending somewhere so full on budgeting and keeping spreadsheets up-to date!
I am going to go through all of my clothes and shoes have a clear out of anything that I cannot up-cycle. My goal is to spend zero on clothes next year. I really do not need a single thing.
To grow more veg but be more selective with what I grow, I want to freeze more of what we do eat rather than spend time trying to grow things that we perhaps dont.
Clear my loft out, why I still need half the stuff up there I dont know, so I want to sell what I can, give away stuff on Freecycle and to charity shops. The reason is when having the house renovated stuff was dumped up there, and the loft was never insulated. Total madness really in this day and age of high energy bills. But I cant get it insulated whilst its piled high with stuff!Dont wait for your boat to come in 'Swim out and meet the bloody thing'0 -
Love this sort of thread:)
Mine is probably the same as the last few yearshowever I think we have eliminated some major stress in our life starting in the New Year so 2013 is the year things are going to change.
1. Reduce spending on everything, buy better but wiser.
2. Get back into menu planning, which will help no 1 a lot.
3. Get into housework routine so if I do have a major day with work I am not playing catch up the rest of the week.
4. Start baking again - bread and cakes.
5. Exercise more to get energy levels up
6. Find and start a hobby.
7. Start & maintain a spending diary.
8. Use all the lovely stationery, planners etc I already have to actually get organised
:rotfl:
There is probably a lot more than this but these are the things that are most important to me.x0
