Hope the posh sunday roast goes well cinny and our two birthday girls are enjoying their treat weekends!
I've just done a bit of a money shuffle to try to keep things at a good interest rate but i think my savings are just going down down hill at the moment I find it very hard to keep track so I'm considering taking an interest rate (few % on not much isn't much!) hit to keep things simple.. not sure about te best way to do this though and might wait to see what isa things come out in march/april... I just want the little we have managed to save for a house to actually grow but instead it seems to be shrinking!
Where does anyone else keep savings or is everyone still trying to get rid of debt first? I think im lucky learning that so far I've learnt early enough and am trying to avoid debt! (apart from the stonking £22k student loan but I prefer to ignore that..!)0 -
Thkerbel, we do a bit of both but not very successfully! There are so many people on here that are so focussed and have a good grip on their money situation. Hope you get sorted :jLet's start again (really need a kick up the bum now) :wall:Virgin CC £9793.710

Cinny, do you not like Martin? That's outlandish talk in here
I think if I spoke my true feelings I'd get banned! :money::money::money:
My savings are pretty insignificant, but we just keep ours in a basic interest saver. Nothing fancy. Once we're building wealth we're probably going to fill our Premium Bond quota, my Grandad swears by them and I trust his money-nessSorry I'm not much use!
The counselling course sounds perfect, PilchardSo sorry to hear about your FIL, but I'm sure both him and your Dad would be so proud of you for all the positive steps you're taking! The guy who did my new tattoos is very "stick it to the man" and was saying "There's a lot to be said for not being out of work, but there's a lot more to be said for being happy in it" If you're not happy with your job, it's the obvious thing to change it - but it does take a silly amount of courage to do the leap of faith that is a career change!
OH and I have stupidly set our hearts on a new sofa. It's so beautiful and perfect and ours it rickety and worn. So the thing is now, do we spend a year saving £125 a month so we can afford to go pay for one with cash this time next year? Or do we take out finance which will be for the amount we'd be saving each month? Moral dilemma! We will be donating our old sofa to a local housing charity though. So does that level it out?!0 -
Morning,
Tink - I have some money in an isa and then the wedding money i am saving in a seperate easy access account. Although the isa will be taking a bashing soon when we need to pay for everything for the wedding.
Cinny - Personally i don't see anything wrong with sofa finance as long as you pay off as is 0%. When we bought ours we had a year without paying and then paid off over 6 months.0 -
Morning everyone
Cinny - I would say that if it is 0% then money-wise it makes sense to just buy it. It isn't costing you any more than if you paid cash and at least you're getting use from it.
I would just bear in mind how long your paying it off over? I took out 0% for sofa, coffee table etc over 3 years. Great at the time, I then spent 6 months out in the bush in Africa thinking about how I was paying £45 a month for furniture that was shoved in someone's loft.
ETA: Obviously I thought other things too, but you know what I mean!Debt at LBM Apr 2010 £28,767 Debt free as of Nov 2013 :j0 -
Morning all!
Cinny, I'd look into the finance for the sofa, also look into how easy it'd be to repay early (so early payment charges etc). So you can get a 'Pay nothing for 6/12 months' deal but use that time to start saving then once you do start paying it back you can throw the extra money at it to get rid of the loan faster.Got linkies for us so we can see the sofa in question?
Tink, we haven't really got any proper savings so I can't help. We really ought to look into getting a good savings account as anything we do save just kind of sits in the joint account and it's too tempting!
I think my old anxiety issues have come back.Pretty much all winter so far I've been both jittery and lethargic (how does that happen?!) and really not myself however much I try to snap out of it.
I just can't seem to bring myself to care at all at work no matter how many times I shake myself and try to concentrate on the job. Think I need to tell my manager tomorrow when she's back in the office so she doesn't fire me for being a useless lump! Also think I need a holiday to drag myself out of this!

Sorry to hear you are feeling like that Birdie. I think definately have a word with your boss.
Can you try and book a little trip away to give you something to look forward to.0 -
I would just bear in mind how long your paying it off over?
It would just be a year if we go for a fixed term, we've had OH's car loan trailing around after us for 4 years so we're reluctant to sign up to anything longer than necessary!
Love your invites, Wendz! They look so fiddly to do though, I wouldn't have been able to do that. Maybe one or two, then a "sod it" attitude would have taken over
Just as I was about to post! We will be asking about if we can pay the term off earlyThis is the sofa in question! Although we think we'll be going for the "brown" mix over the "bear" one that's shown. I would say I can't imagine anything worse than kids sticky hands on a light coloured sofa, but truth is it's my messy self on a light coloured sofa
Sorry to hear you're feeling worn down again Birdie, but I totally get how you feel. I was just the same before Christmas! Might it be an idea to go too the Doctors? I'm sure your manager will understand though. Sounds like you need something to look forward to/perk yourself up a bit!0 -
Looks lovely Cinny, very comfy.
The invitations are very fiddly, is taking a lot more time than i thought and prob cost about as much as buying them but ah well!0 -
