£23k NIM needs to be earning to commute to Leeds to give us the same money in our pocket as if he took a £13k job down the road. The cost of running a car is insane!

Sorry to hear that Poddle, although I have heard of other long-term couples getting married and then splitting up. Not sure why though. I was a bit worried about OH and I as we had been together for 7 years when we got married!

    Same!

Yeah, it's weird - it does seems quite common. I guess planning a wedding is a big distraction and you attribute any problems to the stress of it, but some relationships do just run their course. It's good that there are no children involved, but also weird as my SIL will just disappear from our lives!

Glad you all had a good Easter, Dinah. Hope Grace feels better soon :)

Tete, you don't even need children to go and see the lambs! Last time I went was just with a friend - we took it in turns to queue up with the kids to feed the lambs a bottle, while the other one stood with the proud parents taking photos :D

Grr, stupid post office - the prices are properly crazy now! It's slightly better if you can use a franking machine at work. But it makes me feel a bit less guilty about not eBaying. I felt bad about putting a perfectly good pair of Topshop jeans into a charity bag this weekend (they're too big - yay!) as I just couldn't bear the thought of taking the photos, uploading, dealing with the buyer and the post office all for a few quid. Bad MSE-er!

this is something I'd do :rotfl:

eBay will suffer with the postage prices now. It's ridiculous to be honest how much they have gone up. No one will want to pay £5+ postage for a 99p win. Royal Mail have completely shot themselves in the foot

I feel that way about ebaying old clothes too Poddle. I'd rather send them to a charity shop where they can earn a few quid for a good cause especially when you factor in the hassle and expense of packing things up and posting them when you're only getting a couple of quid per item. Gives me the warm fuzzies when the charities send me a letter to say how much my stuff has earnt them too! :)

I'm shocked at the costs of commuting Dinah! Crazy expensive. :( Hope NIM gets lucky with one of the jobs soon. :)

Very well done on the Sanctuary freebies Dinah! :T

Hope Gracie feels better soon, doesn't sound nice the poor thing. :o

Sorry to hear about your brother Poddle :( My BIL and his wife split up 2 months after they got married. They had been together together 8 years and had a 6 year old son. We were all relieved as she isn't a nice person and BIL has a lovely partner now, who just dotes on his son.

Dinah - the cost of running a car is certainly insane! Is 13K what NIM would earn doing care work?

I found postage had gone up loads in the UK before I left. It is definitely way cheaper here.

Aye £13k is about what a full time care worker earns around here.

My SIL has just called to say she's going to be induced at 3! 11 days early but some blood tests have found something off with her liver so as a precaution they're looking to deliver sooner rather than later! Eeeeeek I'm so excited! (since she's assured me she's OK) :j She's a bit put out as she was really looking forward to going to her Mum's for toad-in-the-hole tonight and instead she's off to hospital! :p

I can't believe how little care workers get paid! It's a hard job for not a lot of money! :o

Yes, that sounds about right. I remember being shocked at how low the pay was for residential workers was when I moved to the UK. At the time, Ireland was far more expensive to live in though. But when I left some of my friends were on €45,000 for residential care workers (qualified). I'm not sure what the unqualified rate was.

My sister has a childcare qualification (studied for 2 years) and earns approx €22,000 for a 2.5 day week. Not a bad wage!

    Oooh exciting stuff Birdie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes - the pay for care workers is dreadful. It is a very tough job where you can be attacked. It is also a lovely job where you can really make a difference in someones life too :)
