Yes - the pay for care workers is dreadful. It is a very tough job where you can be attacked. It is also a lovely job where you can really make a difference in someones life too
That's why I've done it for so long. It's so rewarding. It's not really a job you do for the money. Cos if you do it's really not worth it!! It can be a carp job for carp money some days.
Ooh birdie that's exciting for your SIL. Do you know what you are having? A niece or a nephew?Goals for FebruaryDeclutter 2/50Money Made £0/£200Overpayments £0/£2000 -

It can be very rewarding. I think that people that are not in it for the right reasons leave soon enough though!Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

Usually as soon as they realise what "personal care" really means :rotfl:

They're having a boy Star.
I'm going to be spending the evening decorating the little 'BABY' plaque I bought 6 months ago and never quite got round to doing because I had 'ages'!

Royal mail prices increased on Tuesday. The measurements of packets and compensation level also changed. I now use Myhermes as their small package costs £2.99 delivered and i can drop it off at the petrol station, 5 min walk away. All my packages have been delivered within 2 days. Also collect+ is cheaper than RM.0

Ooh you're going to be an Auntie Birdie, how exciting
Eek Dinah, would NIM commute daily to Leeds? Because that would be hellish surely!? We used to live north of York, sort of halfway to Scarborough, and my mum commuted to Leeds and it turned her into a zombie, she loved the job but it was awful travelling. And you guys are plenty further north!

Awwww I'm an auntie! :happyhear Not seen any photos yet and won't see him until this evening though, hope someone takes pity and sends me a pic soon!
ETA: My brother just sent me a photo and he's sooooo freaking cute!
Re: commuting to Leeds, would it not work out better (time and cost-wise) to travel by train? The price of an annual ticket is quite eye-watering, but still seems to be a lot less than what you've figured out driving will cost.Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary.
