Big hugs for your poor Mum Beccie. She's not stupid for supporting your Dad at all, he's stupid for abusing her trust for so long! He'll come crawling back in no time too, like so many men do once they realise how stupid they've been.

I'm sure you're right Birdie. I'm hoping to help her through it now to make her strong enough to make the right decision for HER, should that be the case.

I'm a little worried about going to Africa now as well. I know she wouldn't hear about me not going but it will feel very far away to help. My brother is here but while he's good intentioned he's not good at talking. I had a phonecall from her crying on Sunday morning asking me to come round again and halfway there I picked my brother up when I spotted him walking along the road to hers as he'd had the same phonecall. So we arrived together and it was only me talking for about the first 30 mins, so I asked him to say something useful. He looked uncomfortable and after a pause said 'shall I let the cat's in?' Where's the rolly-eye smiley?!

men beccie! That's how my brother would "help" too. Men see the pratical side of things so your bro would "help" your mum by doing things, you on the other hand would offer her the emotional help she would need.

Birdie - DH has been driving longer than I have and I hate being driven by him, especially in my car. He drives like a muppet. I'm always telling him he can't drive like that with the kids in the car!!!

Haha Archers! I would probably have eaten it already :D

Last painting jobs for the closet today in preparation for the wallpapering tomorrow, eeeee! Shelves are ordered but the guy hasn't got back yet.

The new kitchen worktops are coming on Saturday too. We decided to escalate the DIY (as usual) and re-tile the kitchen. So exciting to do some little bits on the house. We should really not be spending atm as my funding runs out in Aug, but it is so nice to get things updated sometimes. Something to look forward to :j

TBH I think it's best to get the DIY done whilst you've got the extra cash and time Lara rather than worrying about the future (to a sensible degree anyway!) otherwise it'll never get done! Looking forward to seeing photos, remember to take before shots! :)

I think part of my AA list will be to decorate at least one room. I keep meaning to, I've got the tools but need the paint. We only have one shop in town selling Dulux anti mould stuff and they charge a fortune as it's a little family run place and I can't bring myself to spend that kind of money when I know I can pay half that if I remember to pop to Homebase or B&Q when I next visit my brother! :o

We have DIY jobs on my AA list too. I have lived with a hole in the wall *ahem* half finished fireplace for too long. I have told DH that it needs to be finished by the end of the month. In return I have promised to embroider the 2nd curtain so that they will finally match :o

Also got some sewing jobs on there too

Everyone alright? I am still in holiday mode :o Doesn't help that the whole building is practically empty and it's gorgeous and sunny outside (I can't feel the wind chill from in here ;)) Considering it's only a four-day week it's going pretty slowly! I want to get home to my sewing machine after watching the Sewing Bee last night, loved it!

    Hi Tete!

I would love to be able to sew but fear I wouldn't have the patience. My mother made her own wedding dress and my communion dress etc. She doesn't sew anymore though.

I enjoyed watching the Sewing Bee too Tete! Made me feel very sad that I can't sew like that! :o It was really interesting seeing how many different solutions they came up with when they had to change that top- got some ideas! :)

I'd ideally like to do something like a 2 week intensive dress making/general sewing course; I have the odd lesson from my Mum or MIL then don't dare get out the sewing machine and try it myself and forget what they taught me. :o

I was talking to my Mum last week and it really brought home how important it is to know how to do even basic things like making curtains though, she is redecorating at the minute and bought some fabric from Laura Ashley (she's a posh bird, my Mum is!) and asked for a quote for them to make up 4 curtains for her as she was feeling lazy but they wanted nearly £700 on top of the cost of materials to make them! She quickly decided that she's not *that* lazy and is making them herself! :p
