Whatever all those ten pounds amount to equates to a pittance.
A pittance? Say 10 million got it (but you suggest FAR more than this), that is £100m - not a pittance.
Of course if you are suggesting there are more on benefits then this could even double.
Seems silly when we are forcing disabled to move out of homes or pay for extra rooms we give a benefit for the sake of it. It certainly doesn't do what its historical intent was (Ie to pay for Xmas).0 -
And those who assume they have medical degrees don't realise that the test is based on whether it is reasonable to expect someone with disabilities to work.
As MTF said anyone can work disabled or not but whether it is reasonable to expect someone who is sick/disabled to work is what matters.
You're talking about ESA assessment, I'm talking about what genuine people choose to do.
Employment is not a punishment!0 -

I agree, it's not reasonable to get up at 6 am and shiver for 10 mins defrosting a car, it's not reasonable to realise it's 6pm and you haven't even had time to go to the loo since first thing that morning, it's not reasonable to be away from your family when you work, it's not reasonable to be on your feet in bad weather for 10 hours etc etc.
Yet many people do what is not reasonable because it's work0 -
Work may be the only way out of poverty however despite what the daily mail has lead you to believe there are many people for whom work isn't an option and one day you may be one of them as sickness and disability can strike anyone anytime!
I don't read the daily fail: and I have taken insurance out; as most workers do. Plus I have savings. I would hate to rely on welfare to support me if I get ill; especially in these dire econimic times with all the welfare cuts that the country is being forced to make.
Some people just don't want to work, even thought they could. Just look at all the people that spend a lot of time posting on these forums and others, who would be able to carry out secretarial work from home at the very least. Yet mention "work" and suddenly they continue typing reams and say they are too sick to do any work. Why is that?RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

True, my friend has no disability - just young children. She works over the net as a freelance PA/Secretary.
They send her an email with an audio attachment from meetings - she types and emails back, or types reports, arranges their diary and transport. She charges £10 ph and does the vast majority of things in her own time.0 -

It is crazy. If Britain was a company it would have gone bust and closed down ages ago.
What's even crazier is that a country's that skint can give away £8.8 billion in foreign aid this year. That's equal to £137 for every one of the UK's 62 million citizens. I kid you not. And that aid will increase by the true inflation rate in proceeding years while millions of Britons will be stuck with a one percent income rise for three years. Amongst those will be those who work for the public sector, including the armed forces.
Yes, soldiers and others who the government pretend to respect and admire so much will be working for less and less in real terms while foreign recipients have no such worries.0 -

As you intimated, funding the debt rather than the debt itself is the problem.
That's why we have to borrow to service these massive debts that Labour left the country with and why our debts are going up. We haven't even got any gold reserves to fall back on as Brown sold these during good times; at very low prices:eek: No saving of the north sea oil revenue either (as the Norwegian government did). Spend and borrow, spend and borrow was their mantra......and here we are: in massive debts with no gold reserves; during the worst time possible.RENTING? Not all!!! And that 'some' is a very low fraction of the whole but I suppose to certain people it gives them a good excuse to brand all sick and disabled people as scroungers and frauds who can work but have chosen to live the "luxurious" lifestyle they receive on benefits. What a nasty and judgemental society we've become. Still I suppose it saves you kicking cats!
Osborne and Cameron would be proud of you!0 -

It's nothing new. The UK has been borrowing and giving billions in foreign aid for decades. At least this government are winding down and stopping some of that foreign aid i.e aid to India. I never understood why we gave all that money to a country that had a space programme!RENTING?
