Mascott... hmm maybe next week vow to walk part of the hill so that you are able to finish the distance. Or find a short hill close to home and do a set of reps once a week on it. Well done anyway, another 12k in the legs!:T
Southernbelle I run with my dogs, they keep me amused and take my mind off the running and they love it too!:D
I did walk up, but couldn't get going again. I did run an extra couple of Km just near home. I am determined to get up that hill next week as I am doing it for real end of Feb!Sealed Pot Challenge 2013: No 1898

You cant be completely rubbish! Your at least up & running!
Whats the Couch25K?
I dont want to run alone - round here I`m likely to be arrested so they can ask what I`ve done! :rotfl:
Couch25k - http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml
The idea is you work up from running for a minute /walking for three for 20 minutes to running for 30 minutes (which is meant to be three miles :rotfl:) in about 10 weeks. It's the sort of thing you're already doing but with a proper schedule. It's really great - there's a phone app which is very good or the NHS have done a podcast - http://www.nhs.uk/LiveWell/c25k/Pages/couch-to-5k.aspx - but you can just time yourself (though even a minute seemed a very long time at first!).
I can't recommend it too highly for beginners. Although in 30 minutes I only do 2 and a bit miles, from next week I'm going to add a couple of minutes to every run until I can do three miles. But do try to get outside if you can. I always used to ignore runners but now I'm amazed at how many there are - in a fairly rough area of South London. Whatever your speed or shape, nobody will give you a second glance - and if they do, they'll think 'good for you for getting out there'0 -
Agree with Barbara. Whatever you think you can do, just head out. Little improvements will become huge in no time. And apart from the trainers , it's free!Sealed Pot Challenge 2013: No 1898

Hi, managed a total of just over 20 running miles this week, in 4 runs.:o Ok I suppose. No running at weekends for me as I have to do all my running when the kids are at school. I'm going to try and dig my kettlebell out though and do some strength training, it helps a lot, but I hate it
I'm going to aim for 30 miles next week, bearing in mind all my routes are seriously hilly, mostly trail or fell, hopefully i'll start to feel fitter soon. I might try and get a 10 miler in somewhere.
I have a 5k trail race last weekend in Feb that i've signed up to so it helps for the motivation. I'm looking for a nice fell race to do about March but theres not much near me.
Mascott, when you tackle hills try and increase the turnover of your stride, quicker and smaller strides, keep your back straight. This technique has worked wonders for me.
Happy running folks!:rotfl:0 -
Cheers Poodlegal, I will on my next hilly one. Should be Tues/ weds.Sealed Pot Challenge 2013: No 1898

Hi there! I was excited to find this thread today as I've recently taking up running
I've just completed week 8 of Couch25k - never thought I'd be running for 28 mins at a time a few months ago but there we are. Today's run I felt fantastic, although I still struggle sometimes during runs, I'm not very fit still. Not quite going to be running 5k by the end of it I think, did 3.7k today. Don't think I'll be able to add 1.3k on in two minutes next week :P I guess I'm just going to have to keep adding time on to the end of my runs until I get there!
Anyway just some encouragement to people who want to start running! if I can do it, someone who hasn't run or done consistent aerobic exercise in about 10 years, ANYONE can!Savings target: £25000/£25000
 :T
