An on-off runner here (currently off! :( ) but thought i'd just mention a great FREE club that I was introduced to by my OH's mother - Parkrun. 5K timed races in locations all around the UK. Usually start 0900 on Saturday mornings and they're great fun.

    Did I mention it's free? :p

    I'll be followng you too!
I taught myself to "run" 5K in the summer with the Couch to 5K plan and have kept it up - sometimes more than others - but have got back into it over the Xmas hols. I even managed a 5k trot on Xmas Day!
I have my first 10k on the first weekend in March and need to now up the distance from my just about manageable 5k to 10k over the next 2 months:eek:
I have another one in May so it will be interesting to see whether there's any improvement :p

I'm going to try to add about 0.5km on to my route every week and go 3 times a week - do the "proper" runners think this will be enough?
    Any advice is gratefully received!

    Welcome Anitalouisa

Park runs are great. I used to do the Wimbledon one from time to time.

Could be good for those thinking of their first races due to its friendly, all inclusive atmosphere.

    Hi Welsh woofer

Have a look at the posts above re park runs as they are great training

Your 10 k plans look spot on. Nice sensible increases.

    Thank you Mascott!

Just staggered around a 6km run - not fast at all but I kept going all of the way and am secretly quite proud of myself :)

Did a 5k this morning, was going to be longer but I just wasn't feeling it today. I suppose sometimes you're just not in the mood?
Finished it though and feel better for it now.
