    Hi, can I join?

I wouldn't describe myself as "a runner" just yet thought!

I have just started again after getting progressively more sedentary for a while, so I'm right back at the Couch 2 5K level... I enjoy running when I'm fit enough to find it relaxing, which is why I've gone down the C25K route - baby steps, keep it relaxing and build up slowly (and avoid injuries!). I can be a bit prone to pushing myself too hard!

Still, this morning was Week 1 Workout 1. On and up!

    Welcome Lotti. Always welcome.

Pushing yourself is good, if its too easy it's not helping ... However don't go too far

    Sunday,
    Tunbridge Wells Half
No training for over two weeks, ran with ankle injury.

Apart from getting round I hoped to break 2.09 my PB on that course.

I was on target but lack of energy from 9 miles lead to 2.11.15

However, with a lack of any preparation meant I was happy with that

Week 1 workout 2 done this morning! :D Lovely to be out as the sky was starting to lighten, even if getting out of bed took a stern self-talk!

Thanks for the welcome mascott514, I agree that pushing yourself is good but expecting too much early on is my problem! I expect to just go out and run miles at a good pace after not doing much (any) phys for a while, get cross with myself if I struggle, push myself to the point it isn't fun then dread going out again. It is behaviour I have been known to repeat in a lot of aspects of life...

So I think the right phrase would be "having appropriate expectations" and possibly "setting attainable goals"!

I have to say, it gets my heart and lungs working and my muscles have been feeling the effects of my little jog/walks, so it is doing something!

Can I join please....*puts hand up

I've just started running after agreeing to do the 10k oblivion mud runner in June. I've always wanted to do one after my OH done men's health 10k last year, so I've set myself the challenge.
I attend regular kettlebell classes (3 times a week) so fairly fit, but weaker on my cardio rather than strength.
I've never really run at all, and I've started on a beginers training plan to get me to 3 miles in 8 weeks, then I plan to get up to 10k 8 weeks after. The plan I'm following is this, http://www.runningtrainingplan.com/schedules/BeginnersSchedule5k.pdf.
I'm on my second week, didn't find the first week to difficult, on the first Sunday (1min run 2min walk x 10) I managed to complete 3.85km. Is that any good?
What I'm after is some additional advice. Are there any foods I should eat to help with running? What about technique? I'm finding that I'm getting a stitch, I tend to tense my abs when I run.
Any help to help me reach my target and be fit for June will be a big help.

    Thank you! :)

Did a mixed phys session on tuesday, similar distance to my usual route but a bit faster, plus some cross-training bits and pieces in the playground!

Should have gone this morning, but didn't. No excuse...

Any advice for a first time London Marathon runner? What do you wish you knew before you ran your first marathon?

Hi all, just come across this thread, I LOVE running its been my therapy. The furthest race I have done is 10k, although I am not as fit as I would like to be at the moment. I have not been able to run for three months on my chiropractors orders because I have a long standing back injury that I am having treatment for. My sanity is suffering !
