Another southern softie here, and I would say cancel and rebook for next week. If going backwards and forwards is a hassel it will sort of negate the benefits .... depends if the masseuse (can't spell that) or friend will be annoyed though.
Debt free (finally) and saving a deposit for my first home.

Can you wait til Fri to see how things go?
Or would you still have to pay?

  • Thanks all ..... I can't leave it until Friday as, yes, I'd have to pay (50%) if I don't go - at least this way, there's time for someone else to take the appointment (which will happen) so she'll not lose money .....

I've sent an email to cancel but I've got an out of office reply so stuck on what to do now!:(

Looks like I might be getting winter tyres on the car ..... no idea how they're going to be paid for tho:eek: - there's money in the car pot but tax due in Feb ..... I guess I still have a long time to save up for my service tho' *sigh*

Another good point to getting them is that my normal tyres will last longer ...... *sigh*

  • mmmm So .... there's £187 in the car pot, with another £33.50 to go in on payday so that'll be it at 220.50:)

Sounds good BUT car tax is £100 (due Feb) which leaves £120.50 .... winter tyres are £270 ... so I'm around £150 short ..... oh dear!

I was going to save up for them for next winter BUT ..... think my dad's a bit worried about me driving on the wee roads around here (hill, twisty and often really icey / snowy) now that I've got the automatic - and TBH ... so am I:(

There's a HUGE hill between me & work .... and the road is right on the edge (I hate it at the best of times - and just about carp myself when it's icey - even when in other people's cars let along when I'm driving) and there's always black ice down the far side :(

*sigh* there's £7 in the mattress fund which could go towards them!:rotfl:

Normally a lurker but just putting in my two pennies worth.

I am from Denmark and most people over there drives with Winter tires. My mum has a small Yaris which just handle so much better on ice and snow than my Passat due to its Winter tyres and the lack of them on mine. I would definitely get the tyres now. Wouldn't it save you not having to catch the bus as well i remember you haivng a bus fund?

Not sure why it would be more difficult to drive on snow/ice in an automatic it would have thought with abs and all the other gear modern cars have it would be the same.

More difficult in an automatic as obviously you cant go down the gears manualy.
It can be dangerous to overbrake in an automatic when it is slippy/snowy.
As I have only ever driven an automatic I have nothing to compare it with.

Hi TallGirl :D lovely to see you de-lurking! Hope things are good with you?

Thanks for that - really useful to have positive 1st hand experience of them from someone :T

Yes ... there is the bus fund! Funnily enough I did think of that earlier - but it's already been cut in 1/2 from it's original total so .... I'd rather leave it if I can.

If we end up with loads of snow - I still won't be driving in it ... even with the winter tyres!:o

Beanielou's right - automatics are a lot harder in the ice/snow.

I could stop my manual geared car from 70mph to 0mph just by using my gears & not touching the brakes at all ..... obviously you don't have that in the automatic and you have to brake to get the car to slow/stop ... even gently braking can be too much if it's really icy unfortunately.

Fingers crossed the tyres will help ..... going to have to try to re-work the budgets a bit *sigh* - long term it should balance out as these tyres should last at least 2 winters and I shouldn't need to replace the normal tyres for an extra year or so .... just short term cash-flow issues:o
