Too right - I usually just glance at these things in passing but I just couldn't work out how it could've cost so much so I went to see how much the ABs / treatment stuff had cost

Also p'd off with the amount that gets added - her tablets came to £2.85 each .... but you can buy them online for 89p (plus prescription cost) but you can hardly say "write me a prescription" and then order them online when it's something that needs given straight away:(

    I know Slowly :(

I'd love another dog (and could afford food / general health stuff etc) but it's the insurance / vet trips like today that add up and push it out of reach .....

Do you have a savings pot for pets? I guess that'd be one thing to look at maybe?

You could get a puppy :D

    *sorry, I'll stop now :D*

Always happens at once doesn't it.

At least you've got your pops pit aside.

Hoping that tomorrow's calls go well.

Yup - the "pets pot" was the 1st one I ever had - and funnily enough have had for many years

I started it when I was really, really in debt as I was worried that (Smudge at that time) would need something and I'd have no money to pay for it (and c/cards etc were a bit no-no then as all of them were maxed out :o)

It's always stuck and has helped my bulk buy there stuff which cuts costs hugely :T and means I can buy better quality :T

It's sadly very depleted (ie bankrupt!) just now as I've done some major stocking up but it's also had a few unexpected vet trips to cover (phew to having it!) - hopefully it should start to recover over the next few months as I shouldn't need to buy much food - either feline or canine!

Puppy fund .... I have to say this very quietly ..... I'm really not a puppy person :o

Sure they're cute (adorable actually:D) but ... I'm rather selfish and like to go big long walks and really find puppy walking short distances etc for months a bit tedious :o then there's toilet training ..... and chewing ..... :D

The vets mark-up is shocking isn't it. I know they say it's to support the practice but in many ways I would rather pay a higher cost for the consultation and not have to put up with overpriced, possibly unnecessary meds and the hard sell on supposedly better food (which usually isn't really better quality).

I have switched both of mine to the local P@H now, instead of the local specialist and supposedly wonderful clinic. I got fed up with the constant hard sell - and the snooty comments about the rescue centre my mogs came from - and they were no help with little mog's problems anyway. The P@H vet listened better and made suggestions that actually helped. Plus I like the yearly payment thing - I won't use all the worming and flea meds but I like the cost being spread and I really like that they acknowledge it's important - the posh vets seemed to think that if you blanch at the suggestion of £300 you were simply an irresponsible peasant who shouldn't be allowed to have an animal. And the bill always mysteriously added up to just under the insurance excess if you told the vet what that was. Anyway  and two fingers to them and hurrah for P@H lol.

Sorry Rising that was a bit of a rant :o - not sure it's any help to you since as you say there's not much option when you need the meds immediately.

Oh and  to eejit delivery companies too.

Very quickly ...... Rosa - if you're on one of these monthly things & get flea & worming stuff ever month (which I know no one will ever use that much!)

Still collect them - if you don't use them I know any rescue would be really grateful for them (and they have been paid for so .....)

Vetd prices are awful - my new practice is better than the old one but still:eek:

My pal got a price for having her dog spayed - £185 at my vets & £290 at hers (which is my old one)

    Have a good day everyone:)
