Does anyone have any tips on how to get rid of cold quickly - does a good "blowing" a few times a day get rid of it any quicker?
(I very rarely actually get anything like cold so really not sure how I can get it to go quickly)
When I have a cold my lovely boyfriend has made me up a rather odd concoction - the juice of 1 lemon, 2-3 shots of jack Daniels, 2 tsps of honey (manuka if you've got it) then topped up to a mugful with hot/boiled water. I looked at him as if he was an alien when he first decided to make me drink it but I was asleep within ten minutes of drinking, slept right through and by the morning my really bad cold had almost cleared up! Now he always makes me it and it continues to work a treatx

Well done - that's fantastic news.
Brag away, you deserve it.
Oh thank youI just get the impression on this forum sometimes that people get a bit narked off with others who brag about their debt freeness and I didn't want to annoy anyone

Ohhh I'll not moan about them again(although I do still think the amount you pay towards dental treatment is ridiculous!)
Good luck with your treatments & hope you feel better soon xx
Ohhhh and the sig ..... :j:j:j well done!:T:T:T Def something to be celebrated!:D
Oh thank you that's really nicemine are absolutely nowhere near as hard as what others are going through....mine are just pretty nasty hormone treatments that are sending me through a menopause state so I am feeling a little sorry for myself at the mo! Doesn't help that every type of additional hrt fallback I get put on seems to disagree with me so my body is going through the wars at the mo!

I am very envious of all of your lazy days today, I had my best friends baby shower today and I was stressing out about getting everything ready this morning including a panicked trip to tosco to buy all the food where my boyfriend had to take over as I was hyperventilating but he doesn't quite get the whole budgeting thing so I ended up spending £60 (I am a leave-everything-to-the-last-minute-then-panic type of gal
) but thankfully it went really well.
The boyfriend bless him then treated me to a bottle of wine this evening but I am absolutely knackered now! Hopefully it means I will sleep well tonight for once. Do any of you have problems sleeping? It's a nightmare!Official DFW Nerd 1390 MFW 0/1800

Morning Rising,
Hope you got your hot bath last night and no more power cuts. Power cuts always scare the hell out of me as I am do disorganised. I can never remember where the candles & matches etc are. Probably ought to sort that out.
Hope you are having another lazy day, thats what weekends are for, especially now you are working hard during the week.
Take care hun xx0 -
Morning RFTA, hope the cold isn't too bad this morning
Good suggestion from unoriginal_uk, my dh makes me a hot toddy when I'm feeling sick. Make a cup of tea minus the sugar and milk, add in a few capfuls of whiskey and a squeeze of honey, brilliant :TCan't think of anything smart to put here...0 -
Morning all
just! Well it was when I started typing ... honest!

Ohhhh that sounds interesting - might give it a try tonight (I am partial to a wee JD on occasion so there is a bottle in the cupboard!;))
I did try rum and hot blackcurrant last night but it's errrr not really done a lot as still sneezing this morning & throats like glass shards
I may try Zepsgals suggestion too - never had whisky in tea before ... interesting!:)
Steph I have 99p lanterns etc dotted all over the house in case of power cuts! No candles allowed here:o
It does annoy me that although the lappy has a battery, there's no internet .. but it did mean I could [STRIKE]play around with[/STRIKE] refinemy new diary / calander thing - will have to go & print them off shortly!
Popped up to the market this morning - hoping to get a net of swede (was able to get 12 / 14 swedes in a net for £5 last year) .... no joy unfortunatelytried a few weeks ago but the guy says they just can't get them at a reasonable price as the harvest's been so bad this year.
Not a lot of stalls there - hope it's just as the weather's attrotious (sp?) ... horrid & windy. Stuff's gone up so much even there - used to get these sausage things for the dog (they all love them) and they were 10 for £1.... then 8 for £1 ... then 6 for £1 ... and today ..... 4 for £1 - I know they're cost have gone up too but that's just pricing them out my price range unfortunately!
Managed to get her an ear which has kept her occupied for 1/2 an hour  but she's not flat out sleeping if offthank goodness! (that was the only thing bought so can count a NSD as she has her own budget!)
Must admit to being really tired today - not sure if it's last week catching up on me? Going for a wee snooze in a mo, I think!;)
Will need to brave somewhere later for a walk  - beach will be horrible as the sand will be blowing - but the woods are horrifically muddy .... *sigh* decisions, decisions!:)
Need to do next weeks' meal plan - didn't manage to stick this this week's at all:eek:
Also think I may phone the hospital on Weds (if I've still got the lurgi) - they can't do the infusions if you're ill & could really do without going & having them cancel (will still need to go in the afternoon for consultant appt but at least it would only be 1/2 day) - work will only give me so much time off for appts (the rest being unpaid) so could do without wasting any!

Sorry you are not feeling any better Rising. I think you need to give yourself a little TLC and have a "slouch on the couch" afternoon.
Are you back at work full time now? How are you coping? I will be back at work full time tomorrow for the first time in 12 years  I was working 31 and now I'm going up to 36. That extra hour at home is going to be missed
Hope Maisie enjoyed her pig's lug (as I call them)it's best not to think about what they are or look at them too hard but my pair love them so I buy them at our market too. I agree about the prices, once I could get 10 for a fiver, then 8 for a fiver, now its 5 for a fiver  They only get one a week now, if I have to feel the tightening of purse strings then so do they
Funny how they can charge so much for something that would go to waste if dogs didn't eat them.
